Welcome to Barah Ministries…a worldwide Christian Church based in Mesa, AZ…my name is Pastor Rory Clark.
In Matthew, Chapter 11, Verses 28 to 30…JESUS SAYS…
“Come to Me, all who are weary (from toil) and heavy-laden (with burdens), and I (the Lord Jesus Christ) will give you rest.”
“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
“For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
In Isaiah, Chapter 41, Verse 10…JESUS SAYS…
‘Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
The Lord Jesus Christ, our Sovereign God, has developed unconditional covenants with His righteous ones. These covenants are called promises… and He has made numerous promises to us in the bible…He has given us His Word…and He is faithful…He keeps His Word. And even when we are faithless, He is faithful…He continues to build us and to strengthen us all the days of our lives.
In Psalm 37, Verses 23 to 25…King David, in the later years of his life, with a lifetime of seeing God at work under his belt…says this about JESUS…
The steps of a man are established by the Lord, and the Lord delights in the man’s way.
When a man falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because the Lord is the One who holds his hand.
I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread.
As a result of our God’s faithfulness, we take comfort…in good times and bad…knowing that we have hope in our Lord. Welcome to a place where you can learn about the faithful One and where you can derive hope from the promises in His Word.

Let us pray...
We’re grateful Heavenly Father for the privilege of studying the absolute truth...the Word of God…
Thank you for giving us Your hope, which is the absolute confidence that everything You say comes true…thank you for the blessings of adversity and prosperity…thank you that in spite of our best efforts to sabotage our lives you still hold our hands…thank you for giving us courage in the storms of this life…
Show us Your purpose in us…help us to have joy in our circumstances… help us to resist the desire to think that our environment needs to be changed…convince us that You have us right where You want us…open our spiritual eyes, and help us see the progress of Your work in us…
We ask this through the power of God the Holy Spirit...in Christ’s name... Amen.
TODAY’S STUDY
God HAS and DOES So We Can Just BE
The easy approach to life is HAVING and DOING. The HAVING life is the life of materialism…“we are living in a material world and I am a material girl” … the DOING life is a life filled with “busy-ness”…it’s the energizer bunny approach to life…to blind ourselves with activity and to fall dead asleep each night from exhaustion. God just wants us to BE…and it’s the most difficult thing for us…to allow ourselves to just trust in our God through faith...to depend on Him for answers and solutions…and to know that He will deliver for us in every circumstance. The baby worries about nothing, knowing the parents will come through.
Like David, I, too, am in the later years of my life and I have seen what the Lord is able to do. I was talking to Deanna Perkosky, a member of our non-resident congregation, at the NY-PENNSYLVANIA CONFERENCE recently…she was thinking about the fact that she has graduated from college with a music degree, yet the desire of her heart has yet to be fulfilled…she has not gotten a job as a music teacher. It can be quite a jolt when you have the thought that the way you have mapped out your future in your mind is exactly the way things are going to be. I chuckled. I said, “When I look at your circumstances, I see God holding off giving you the job you want because He knew He was going to give you a baby first. It’s kinda tough when right after you get a job you tell your employer, ‘Ooops…I’m pregnant.’ ” She chuckled.
I saw June, our Song Worship Leader, out of work for over a year. My instinct was to rush to her aid. But I am not God, and I decided to let her see what God was going to do for her. He did what He always does…He brought every resource to her that she needed, and in His timing…in due time…He provided her with her next assignment.
There is a lot to be said for having things…there is a lot to be said about a flurry of activity…about DOING things. Of course God expects us to HAVE and He certainly expects us to DO. But there is even more to be said for the believer in Christ who has the absolute confidence that what God says, HE will do…and because of it, we will HAVE…so we can rest in just BEING. Psalm 37, Verse 5…
Commit your way to the Lord…trust also in Him, and He will do it.
Now when June hears that verse, she has lived it. Romans, Chapter 4, Verses 18 to 21…
In hope against hope Abraham believed God’s promises, so that he might become a father of many nations according to that promise which had been spoken by God, “So shall your descendants be.”
Without becoming weak in faith Abraham contemplated his own (sexually impotent) body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah’s womb (since she was about sixty years old)…
…yet, with respect to the promise of God, Abraham did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God…
…and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.
Just at the moment when there is no hope in a human situation, God ALWAYS steps in to rescue us…to give us life…to deliver us…so that we may know without a doubt that our salvation is in the Lord. Psalm 37, Verse 4…
Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
There’s more to life than just HAVING and DOING…God wants us to BE.
Well in just a moment, we’ll welcome up Deacon Denny Goodall to take the offering. Then we’ll learn about the BEING life god wants us to live.

TODAY’S STUDY
God HAS and DOES So We Can Just BE
God provides ALL of the HAVING and DOING things is due time… Matthew, Chapter 6, Verse 33…
But seek first His kingdom (salvation) and His righteousness (the Christian Way of Living…BEING things), and all these (HAVING and DOING) things will be added to you.
We continue our study of Paul’s letter to the believers in Christ at first century Rome…a letter that is all about our salvation as believers in Christ. And the first eight chapters of the book build to a crescendo that introduces us to our Mentor, our Guide, and our Teacher, God the Holy Spirit.
Romans, Chapter 8, Verses 3 and 4…
FOR WHAT THE MOSAIC LAW COULD NOT DO, weak (powerless) as it was through the flesh, GOD THE FATHER DID: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh…and as an offering for sin, the Father condemned sin in the flesh…
…so that the requirement of the Mosaic Law (righteousness) might be fulfilled in us, who DO NOT WALK ACCORDING TO THE FLESH but who WALK ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT.
The funny thing about our “rat race” to HAVE and to DO…is how powerless we are. We don’t have our own strength…we borrow our strength from one of two sources…from “the flesh” or “from the Spirit.” Believers in Christ should never borrow their power from “the flesh,” yet many do. Romans, Chapter 8, Verse 5…
For those who are ACCORDING TO THE FLESH (unbelievers) set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who ARE ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT (believers in Christ), set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
The flesh is more powerful than the law…unbelievers are described in the bible as “lawless” and as “the sons of disobedience” … they do not follow the law…they follow “the flesh.” The flesh is more powerful than your will. The flesh has a mind of its own. The flesh is a rebel. It hates God. It hates you. It hates everything important to you.
The depth of love in of the opening of Paul’s letter to the Romans reads like a Last Will and Testament from the Lord Jesus Christ to His believers.
“I, the Lord Jesus Christ, being of sound mind and body, do hereby bequeath to every believer in Christ…the promise that if I cared enough about you to die on the Cross for you, that I care about everything else in your life. I will provide all of the HAVING and DOING things for you. You are to just BE. BEING doesn’t mean sitting and do nothing. BEING means doing the work of the Spirit and watching what it produces in your life. I, the Lord, HAVE everything. I, the Lord, can DO anything. I want you to HAVE and to DO. Don’t feel the need to strive for things for yourselves. Set your mind on dependence on the Spirit.”
The thing that the law was not able to DO, God was able to DO. Powerful words. How many people right now are religious…they are striving to HAVE salvation and they are DOING something to earn it. They strive for the impossible. Romans, Chapter 11, Verse 6…
But if salvation is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.
“I, the Lord Jesus Christ, being of sound mind and body, want you believers in Christ to know that striving in the HAVING and DOING realm was your former way of life. When you became a believer in Christ, you became a BEING. My Father did what the law could not do and what you could not do…so He sent Me to do it because He knew I could. I took on the likeness of your sinful flesh…I lived a sinless life…I went to the Cross to shed blood for you…I incurred my Father’s wrath to pay for your sins instead of you…I condemned sin in the flesh…I fulfilled the righteousness requirements of the Mosaic Law…I did what Satan could have done had he wanted to…what Adam and Eve could have done if they wanted to…I obeyed. I lived a holy life, a BEING life, and it is the life I am leaving you, as an inheritance…the resurrection life…under the direction of God the Holy Spirit of THE LIFE. What you can’t DO, what you can’t HAVE…I have asked the Spirit to HAVE and to DO for you.”
“Please don’t take the resurrection life lightly. Don’t be mistaken. I, the Lord, don’t want your life tangled up in sin. I want your life enriched by truth from your innermost being. And I will accomplish this in you by the agency of God the Holy Spirit.”
Romans, Chapter 8, Verses 3 to 5…

…so that the (righteousness) requirement of the Mosaic Law (which the law sought in vain) might be fulfilled in us, who DO NOT WALK ACCORDING TO THE FLESH but who WALK ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT.
For those who are ACCORDING TO THE FLESH (unbelievers) set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who ARE ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT (believers in Christ), set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
Satan wanted to HAVE and to DO. It didn’t work out for him. Ezekiel, Chapter 28, Verses 12 to 19…
“Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God … you had the seal of perfection, you were full of wisdom and you were perfect in beauty.’”
“You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: the ruby, the topaz and the diamond; the beryl, the onyx and the jasper; the lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald; and the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets, was in you. On the day that you were created they were prepared.”
“You were the anointed cherub who covers (the bodyguard angel), and I
(the Lord Jesus Christ) placed you there (in that position). You were on the holy mountain of God (the third heaven); you walked in the midst of the stones of fire (the throne room of heaven).”
“You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until unrighteousness was found in you.”
“By the abundance of your trade (the trafficking of slander) you were internally filled with violence (a great description of “the flesh”), and you sinned; therefore I have cast you as profane from the mountain of God (you were removed from your position). And I have destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire (the throne room of heaven).”
“Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I put you before kings, that they may see you.”
“By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your trade
you profaned your sanctuaries. Therefore I have brought fire from the midst of you; it has consumed you, and I have turned you to ashes on the earth in the eyes of all who see you.”
“All who know you among the peoples are appalled at you; you have become terrified and you will cease to be forever.”’”
What dis Satan want to HAVE and DO? Isaiah, Chapter 14, Verses 12 to 14…
“How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn!
You have been cut down to the earth, you who have weakened the nations!”
“But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north.’”
“‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’”
Satan set his mind on the things of the flesh…the HAVING and DOING things…and it didn’t work out for him. He had it all, and he gave it all away.
“I, the Lord Jesus Christ, being of sound mind and body, want you believers in Christ to have a different life. Just BE, and watch Me DO everything else so you can HAVE it all.”
When the Lord Jesus Christ
Promises Salvation, It’s a Guarantee!
For I am not ashamed of the gospel message, for the gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
My soul waits in silence for the Lord only; from Him is my salvation.
‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved.’
The Lord Jesus Christ is not slow about His promise of salvation, as some accuse Him of, but is patient toward you (all mankind), not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance (a change of mind about a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ).
