/Welcome To

BARAH MINISTRIES

a Christian Church

Rory Clark

Pastor-Teacher\

Good Morning!

Welcome to Barah Ministries…a worldwide Christian Church based in Mesa, AZ…my name is Pastor Rory Clark.

The work of God the Holy Spirit in the lives of Christians is supernatural.

In First Samuel, Chapter 16, we see the Holy Spirit’s work in the anointing of David as king…David had been chosen as the king of Israel in eternity past, and the Lord had selected Samuel to seek him out and to do the anointing…

/1SA 16:1

Now the Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have selected a king for Myself among his sons.”\

/1SA 16:7

…the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at (Jesse’s son) Eliab’s appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”\

/1SA 16:10

Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.”\

/1SA 16:11

And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are these all the children?” And Jesse said, “There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is tending the sheep.” Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.”\

/1SA 16:12

So Jesse sent and brought David in. Now he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes

and a handsome appearance. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.”\

/1SA 16:13

Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward.\

The Holy Spirit also was instrumental in the birth of the true humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Mary was told by an angel that she would have a baby…here’s what she said in Luke, Chapter 1, Verses 34 and 35…

/LUK 1:34

Mary said to the angel, “How can this be (that I will have a baby), since I am a virgin?”\

/LUK 1:35

The angel answered and said to Mary, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.”\

The Holy Spirit played a prominent role in the Lord’s earthly ministry.  Luke, Chapter 4, Verses 18 and 19…the Lord Jesus Christ is speaking…

/LUK 4:18

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me (the Lord), because God the Father anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.  He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed…”\

/LUK 4:19

“…the Father has sent me to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”\

And God the Holy Spirit is center stage in the lives of all Church Age believers in Christ.  Welcome to a place where you can get to know Him.

/TODAY’S STUDY
The Holy Spirit Executes Christ’s Purpose\

We’re studying two verses in Romans, Chapter 8…Verses 14 and 15…

/ROM 8:14

For all who are being led by the Holy Spirit of God, these ones are sons of God.\

/ROM 8:15

For you believers in Christ have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”\

We’re looking at a few of the key expressions in these two verses…led by the Sprit of God…the sons of God…we have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear…we have received a spirit of adoption as sons.

In the last lesson we learned what it means to be led by God the Holy Spirit…He is a Person…He is God…and He has been assigned by the Lord Jesus Christ to take complete control of our spiritual lives.  In God the Holy Spirit’s leading, He doesn’t expect to do all the work in our spiritual lives, even though He can.  We have a responsibility in our spiritual lives, but not a requirement, because with our free will we can accept or reject our responsibility to our own spiritual lives.  And when we fulfill our responsibilities, we do not rack up merit points with God…instead, with the fulfillment of our responsibilities, we experience the fullness of the resurrection life that God the Father has provided for us.

The apostle Paul prays for us believers in Christ in Ephesians, Chapter 3, Verses 14 to 18…

/EPH 3:14

For this reason (in anticipation of praying) I (Paul) bow my knees before God the Father…\

/EPH 3:15

…from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name…\

/EPH 3:16

…that God the Father would grant you believers in Christ, according to His glorious riches, to be strengthened with power through His Holy Spirit indwelling the inner man…\

/EPH 3:17

…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in unconditional love…\

/EPH 3:18

…may be able to comprehend with all the saints (with all the believers in Christ) what is the breadth and the length and the height and the depth of these riches…\

/EPH 3:19

…and that you may know the immensity of the unconditional love of Christ for you, which surpasses knowledge, and that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.\

Paul is praying that we realize the amazing gift that has been placed in each of us as believers in Christ…that we may be strengthened with power through His Holy Spirit indwelling the inner man.  God the Holy Spirit provides the power we have to voluntarily live the holy life.  When we do, we are filled up to all the fullness of God.  It is God the Holy Spirit who executes Christ’s purpose in us…He strengthens our inner man and He brings us to glory…making us a reflection of the Godhead…in their exact image.

Let’s look at the remaining expressions in these two verses of the passage…  Romans, Chapter 8, Verses 14 and 15…

/ROM 8:14

For all who are being led by the Holy Spirit of God, these ones are sons of God.\

/ROM 8:15

For you believers in Christ have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”\

First, the fact that as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are sons of God.

The Lord is the Son of God…capital “S” and capital “G”… we are sons of God…small “s” and capital “G.”  Romans, Chapter 1, Verses 1 to 4…

/ROM 1:1

Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, by calling, an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God the Father…\

/ROM 1:2

…which gospel the Father promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Old Testament Scriptures…\

/ROM 1:3

…the gospel concerning His Son (the Lord), who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh (as Jesus Christ)…\

/ROM 1:4

…who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the God and the Spirit of holiness, this Jesus Christ our Lord…\

We are sons of God who have come of age and who are able to make our own decisions.  Our God, through the ministry of God the Holy Spirit, is bringing us to glory.  Hebrews, Chapter 2, Verses 9 and 10…

/HEB 2:9

But we do see Him, who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, the Lord Jesus Christ, because of the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ might taste death for everyone.\

/HEB 2:10

For it was fitting for God the Father, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation (Christ) through sufferings.\

As sons of the living God, our sonship is not based on perfect obedience to God the Holy Spirit, although for our sakes, that would definitely be preferred.  Our sonship is confirmed by the indwelling of God the Holy Spirit.  This is the big difference between our human parents and our Divine Parents.  Our human parents have a tendency to be conditional with their love for us…the love us a lot when we are doing what they want, and they don’t love us very much when we aren’t doing what they want.  Our God is unconditional in His love for us.  When we disobey, He loves us anyway.

Those who take a legalistic approach to their relationship with God are intimidated by Him, instead of being intimate with Him.  That’s an attitude of fear of God, not and attitude of respect toward God.  When a relationship is great, we are relaxed in relationship.

Let’s take a quick music break.

/TODAY’S STUDY
The Holy Spirit Executes Christ’s Purpose\

Romans, Chapter 8, Verses 14 and 15…

/ROM 8:14

For all who are being led by the Holy Spirit of God, these ones are sons of God.\

/ROM 8:15

For you believers in Christ have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”\

The next expression in Romans, Chapter 8, Verses 14 and 15…as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear.  God the Holy Spirit executes Christ’s purpose in us by giving us courage and freedom, not fear and slavery.  Thus we are notin a spirit of bondage under sin…Romans, Chapter 6, Verse 14 in the first part says…

/ROM 6:14a

For sin shall not be master over you…\

Nor are we in a spirit of bondage under the law.  Romans, Chapter 6, Verse 14 in the last part says…

/ROM 6:14b…

…for you are not under law but under the sphere of grace.\

Nor are we in a spirit of bondage about food…First Timothy, Chapter 4, Verses 1 to 3…

/1TI 4:1

But God the Holy Spirit explicitly says that in later times (every generation) some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and the doctrines of demons…\

/1TI 4:2

…by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron…\

/1TI 4:3

…men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.\

AS believers in Christ, we are not in a spirit of bondage about fear.  Fear is completely out of place in the life of spiritual royalty.  Here is an example of how three people see the same person differently…Matthew, Chapter 25, Verses 14 to 30…

/MAT 25:14

“For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.”\

/MAT 25:15

“To one he gave five talents, to another, two talents, and to another, one talent, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.”\

/MAT 25:16

“Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents.”\

/MAT 25:17

“In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more.”\

/MAT 25:18

“But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.”\

/MAT 25:19

“Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them.”\

/MAT 25:20

“The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’”\

/MAT 25:21

“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’”\

/MAT 25:22

“Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more talents.’”\

/MAT 25:23

“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’”\

/MAT 25:24

“And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed.’”\

/MAT 25:25

“‘And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’”\

/MAT 25:26

“But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed.’”\

/MAT 25:27

“Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest.”\

/MAT 25:28

“Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’”\

/MAT 25:29

“For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.”\

/MAT 25:30

“Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”\

The worthless slave in this story is an unbeliever…but the lesson for believers is faith.  Do you have faith in God the Holy Spirit to help you with every life issue?  Or do you prefer fear?

We are no longer in bondage to the life “in Adam” … First Corinthians, Chapter 15, Verse 22…

/1CO 15:22

For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.\

Finally, as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ,we are adopted adult sons…the Roman Style of adoption.  “Adoption as adult sons” is a commentary on the relationship a believer in Christ has with God.  When a person was adopted as an adult son in ancient Rome, it was a legal designation, not a birthright designation.  Adoption made the adult son one with the parent.  The adult son could act and decide as if he was the same person as the parent…the adopted son had the right to all things that are the parent’s.

Because you are adopted at the moment of salvation, you are led by the Spirit…because you are led by the Spirit you are a son…because you are a son, you are an heir…because you are an heir you are not welcome to consider yourself a slave.

Go the Holy Spirit is the one executing the Lord Jesus Christ’s purpose in you.  He is the one leading you…He is responsible for helping you to know the significance of being a son of God who has come of age…he is responsible for eliminating fear from your soul…He is responsible for helping you take advantage of the privileges of being an adopted adult son.  You do well to fulfill your responsibility to Him, by voluntarily choosing to live the holy life.

/When the Lord Jesus Christ

Promises Salvation, It’s a Guarantee!\

/ROM 3:10

…as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one”\

/ROM 5:8

But God the Father demonstrates His own unconditional love toward all mankind, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.\

/JOH 3:17

For God the Father did not send the Son (the Lord Jesus Christ) into the world to condemn the world, but the Father sent His Son into the world that the world might be saved through believing in Him.\

/JOH 1:12

But as many as received the Lord (taking advantage of the free gift of salvation), to them He gave the right (once and for all time) to become children of God…to those who believe in Christ’s name…\
