Good Morning!

Welcome to Barah Ministries…a Christian Church based in Mesa, AZ…my name is Pastor Rory Clark.  At Barah Ministries we are “pursuing the truth through the study of the Word of God.” We are committed to learn how to live our lives God’s way because we believe God’s way is the ONLY WAY.

TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

Has the Lord Jesus Christ Abandoned the Jews?

Many people think so.

In fact, the believers in Christ of this time period in divine history…this period of time called the “dispensation of the mystery” … this period of time called the “Age of Grace” … in some theological circles, these Church Age Believers are thought to be the replacements for the Jews.  First Peter, Chapter 2, Verses 9 and 10 is the basis of these thoughts…

FIRST PETER 2:9

But you (believers in union with Christ…you Church Age Believers) are a chosen race (a race of people specially selected to be God’s generation), a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession (God’s “special” people), so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of (the) darkness (of unbelief) into His marvelous light (to a “so great” salvation…

Notice…it’s the Church Age believers who are called the holy nation…not the United States.  Anyway…isn’t that what the Jews were called…the chosen race…the people of God’s own possession…God’s special people?

FIRST PETER 2:10

…for you (Gentiles) once (when you were unbelievers) were not a people (of God), but now (as believers in Christ) you ARE the (chosen) people of God…(at that time) you had not received mercy (from God, as unbelievers)…but now you (Gentiles) have received mercy (from God, as believers in union with Christ).

The things being said to the Gentiles in these verses…First Peter, Chapter 2, Verses 9 and 10…are things that were once said only about the Jews… Exodus, Chapter 19, Verses 3 to 6…

EXODUS 19:3

Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob (the nation Israel) and this you shall tell the sons of Israel…”

EXODUS 19:4

“‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians (for you), and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself.’”

God delivered the Jews out from four hundred years of Egyptian captivity…

EXODUS 19:5

“‘Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine…’”

EXODUS 19:6

“‘…and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you (Moses) shall speak to the sons of Israel.””

The Jews of today, among them many of my intimate and personal friends, describe themselves as “The Chosen People of God.”  They once were.  Are they now?  Are the Jews still the chosen people of God?  Their claim always takes me on a mental journey into Romans, Chapter 8, Verses 29 and 30…

ROMANS 8:29

For those whom God the Father foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son (the Lord Jesus Christ), so that the Christ (the Messiah) would be the firstborn among many brethren…

ROMANS 8:30

…and these whom God the Father predestined (to the privilege of salvation), He also called (to this salvation…to be ‘born again ones’… to be “chosen out ones”… to be” set apart ones” … to be “sanctified ones”)…and these whom God the Father called, He also justified…and these whom God the Father justified, He also glorified.

The “chosen out ones” … the “called ones” … the “set apart ones” … the “sanctified ones” … in every generation, these “ones” are those who choose to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as He reveals Himself in that time period…the are those who count on the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation.  Does that describe the Jews of today?

In Old Testament times, Jonah refused to obey the Lord’s request…he fled from the presence of the Lord…or so he thought…and he ended up in the belly of a fish…and after his rebellion…from the belly of the fish…he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord answered him…and his conclusion, in Jonah, Chapter 2, Verse 9 is…

JONAH 2:9

“But I (Jonah) will sacrifice to You (Lord) with the voice of thanksgiving.  That which I (Jonah) have vowed I (Jonah) will pay.  Salvation is from the Lord.”

From rebellion came salvation for Jonah.  Will the same be true for the Jews?

In John, Chapter 14, Verse 6, the Lord Jesus Christ proclaimed the way to be saved from the rebellion of unbelief…

JOHN 14:6

Jesus said to Thomas, the doubting apostle, “I (the Lord Jesus Christ) am the way (to salvation), and (I am) the truth…(I am the Word of God)…and (I am) the (resurrection) life (eternal life); and no one comes to God the Father but through believing in Me.”

Whether Jew or Gentile, there is now, and there always has been, only ONE WAY to be saved…by the grace of God through the expression of your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone.

So then, has the Lord Jesus Christ abandoned the Jews in favor of the Gentiles?  Are the scholars in theological circles right?  Welcome to a place where you can find out.

TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

Has the Lord Jesus Christ Abandoned the Jews?

No.  The Lord Jesus Christ hasn’t abandoned the Jews.  But many of the Jews have abandoned the Christ, their Messiah.  John, Chapter 1, Verse 11…

JOHN 1:11

The Lord Jesus Christ came to His own (the Jews), and those who were His own did not receive Him.

The Jews of His day rejected the Lord.  Isaiah predicted the Jewish rejection of their Messiah in Isaiah, Chapter 53, Verse 1…

ISAIAH 53:1

Who has believed our message (concerning the true identify of the Lord…the Son of God…the Messiah)?  And to whom has the arm (the omnipotent power) of the Lord been revealed?

God’s power was revealed in the flesh to the Jews, His chosen people… John, Chapter 1, Verse 14…

JOHN 1:14

And the Word (the Lord) became flesh (true humanity…Jesus Christ), and tabernacled among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the uniquely born One from God the Father (100% God and 100% Man in one person forever…full of grace and truth.

God’s power was revealed in the flesh to the Jews with a disappointing result…Isaiah, Chapter 53, Verse 3…

ISAIAH 53:3

The Lord Jesus Christ was despised and forsaken of men…He was a man of sorrows and He was acquainted with grief…and like one from whom men hide their face, He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

The Messiah was not welcomed by His people, the Jews, with open arms…quite the opposite…they despised Him…He was greeted with closed fists…yet their rejection of Him did not in the past, and does not now, keep Him from being faithful to them…faithful as He is to all of His creatures… John, Chapter 1, Verses 12 and 13…

JOHN 1:12

But as many as received the Lord Jesus Christ, to them (who believe in Him) He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name…

JOHN 1:13

…those who were born again, not as a result of blood line (for example, the racial Jews…those who are born Jewish), nor as a result of the will of the flesh (through a human decision), nor as a result of the will of a man (referring to a husband’s choice to sire a child), but as a result of (a supernatural work through the power of) God the Father.

It is God who causes regeneration…that we are “the born again ones” of God … through God’s power, not through our own power.  Has the Lord Jesus Christ abandoned the Jews?  Here’s what Paul would say in Romans, Chapter 3, Verse 4…

ROMANS 3:4

May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written, “That You may be justified in Your words, and that you might prevail when You are judged.”

Has the Lord Jesus Christ abandoned the Jews?  Perish the thought!  Let’s take a music break and we’ll hear more about the relationship between the Lord Jesus Christ and the Jews.

TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

Has the Lord Jesus Christ Abandoned the Jews?

Welcome back!

Now we transition from a three hundred hour study of the first eight chapters of Pauls’ letter to the Romans, to a study of Romans, Chapters 9 through 11.  We move from a study of salvation by faith for the Gentiles, to a study of what happened to the Jews when the Gentiles came on the scene.  Has the Lord Jesus Christ abandoned the Jews?  Absolutely not!  If He had abandoned the Jews, as Gentiles we could take no comfort in our own eternal security.  If a creature turns his back on God, and God responds by turning His back on the creature, as is the habit of human beings, not only are the Jews in trouble, but us Gentiles are in trouble as well.  But God is faithful to His own.  Second Timothy, Chapter 2, Verse 13…

SECOND TIMOTHY 2:13

If we are faithless, the Lord Jesus Christ remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.

Has the Lord Jesus Christ abandoned the Jews?  No way!  Romans, Chapter 8, Verses 38 and 39…

ROMANS 8:38

For I (Paul) am fully convinced that neither…death nor life…nor angels nor principalities…nor things present nor things to come…nor powers…

ROMANS 8:39

…nor height nor depth…nor any other created thing…will be able to separate us from the unconditional love of God, which is for those who are in union with Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Lord is faithful to His own!

Abraham is one of the Lord’s own…as is Abraham’s son Isaac…and His grandson Jacob.  This is the line from whom the Jews of the Lord Jesus Christ come.  These are the regenerate Jews…these are the spiritual Jews…these are the Jews who followed Abraham’s lead.  A verse right at the beginning of the Jewish Torah describes them…the Torah...a book of instruction on a way of life for the Jewish people which contains the first five books of the bible…here’s what the Torah and the bible say about the Jews who follow Abraham’s lead…Genesis, Chapter 15, Verse 6…

GENESIS 15:6

Then Abram believed in the Lord…and the Lord reckoned it to Abram (credited it to his account) as righteousness.

There is now, and there always has been, only ONE WAY to be saved…by the grace of God through the expression of your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone as He is revealed in the time in which you live.  Abraham knew this…Isaac knew this…Jacob knew this…and all the Jews of Abraham’s spiritual seed know this as well.

Why are the Jews called “The Chosen People of God?”  What were they chosen for?

WHAT WERE THE JEWS CHOSEN FOR?

The Jews were chosen to be God’s evangelism instrument.

The Jews were chosen to deliver the gospel message of redemption to the world for four hundred and ninety years.

The Jews were chosen to receive their promised Messiah.

As Church Age Believers, as Gentiles, we are “the chosen people” charged to do the exact same things!  Being a part of a chosen people, either like the Jews or like the Church Age Believers, is not an automatic guarantee of salvation.  For example, if you are a believer in Christ and you have kids, your children are not automatically saved.  They have to choose to express their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  The same is true of the Jews.  Being born into the Jewish race is not an automatic guarantee of salvation.  If you are a racial Jew, to be saved, you have to do the exact same thing Abraham did…you have to choose to express your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ… Genesis, Chapter 15, Verse 6…

GENESIS 15:6

Then Abram believed in the Lord…and the Lord reckoned it to Abram (credited it to his account) as righteousness.

The ONLY WAY to have a relationship with God is by expressing your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation as Abraham did…as Isaac did…as Jacob did.

The Lord made a series of promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob…and the immutable God, who never changes, will fulfill every single promise He made to the Jews.  Has the Lord Jesus Christ abandoned the Jews?  Not no way…not no how!  Daniel, Chapter 9, Verses 24 to 27…

DANIEL 9:24

“Seventy weeks (490 years…seventy sabbatical years…70 times 7 years=490) have been decreed for your people (the Jews) and your holy city (Jerusalem), to finish the transgression (the Jews sin of rejection of the Messiah), to make an end of sin (their disobedience to the Word), to make atonement for iniquity (as opposed to the twelve months of cover for their sins…a permanent cover…Christ’s redemption at the Cross), to bring in everlasting righteousness (the kind credited to Abram’s account), to seal up vision and prophecy (to fulfill what was predicted by the Old Testament prophets) and to anoint the most holy place (the rebuilding of Solomon’s temple).”

DANIEL 9:25

“So you are to know and you are to discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem (by Artaxerxes Longimanus) until Messiah the Prince (the first advent of Christ) there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks (483 years); the Temple will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.”

DANIEL 9:26

“Then after the (seven weeks and the) sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing (the Lord Jesus Christ’s crucifixion at the Cross), and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary (this happened in AD 70). And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war…desolations are determined.”

The Jews were set aside after the sixty nine weeks…after the rejection of their Messiah…and their being set aside continues until the second coming of Christ at the end of the seventieth week…the Tribulation period.  Here’s what will occur in the seventieth week of seven years…the Tribulation…

DANIEL 9:27

“And he (the anti-Christ) will make a firm covenant with the many (the Jews) for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering…and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.”

The Anti-Christ will pretend to be the protector of the Jews and the protector of Israel, and then he will turn on them seeking to obliterate them totally.  Why?  Sponsored by Satan, the Anti-Christ’s killing of all the Jews would make the Lord unable to keep His promises to the Jews, and to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob…proving the Lord Jesus Christ to be unfaithful.  Just when the Anti-Christ is about to succeed at killing all the Jews, the Lord will come a second time…the Second Advent of Christ…and He will wipe out all the unbelievers on the earth, as we, the Church Age believers witness the whole thing.

Has the Lord Jesus Christ abandoned the Jews?  No.  And as we begin our study of the next section of the letter to the Romans, we will learn the fate of the Jews.  Good news for them.  And good news for us Gentiles.

GOD WANTS YOU!

Make the Most Important Decision of Your Life

ACTS 16:30

“…the jailer asked, “Sirs (talking to Paul and Silas), what must I do to be saved?”

ACTS 16:31

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and everyone in your household who also believes.”

ACTS 4:12

“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given to mankind by which we must be saved (except the name of the Lord Jesus Christ).”

JOHN 14:6

Jesus said to the apostle Thomas, the doubting one, “I am the way (to salvation), and (I am) the truth (the Word of God), and (I am) the (resurrection) life; no one comes to the Father but through believing in Me.”

ACTS 2:21

‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation will be saved.’
