Welcome to Barah Ministries…a Christian Church based in Mesa, AZ…my name is Pastor Rory Clark.  God does not want you to be confused.  First Corinthians, Chapter 14, Verse 33 says…

 

FIRST CORINTHIANS 14:33a

…for God the Father is not a God of confusion…

 

Instead, our God is a God of unity…so everything with God is one… Ephesians, Chapter 4, Verses 4 to 6 say…

 

EPHESIANS 4:4

There is one body (the body of Christ…the Church) and one (God the Holy) Spirit (who indwells and leads believers in Christ), just as also you were called in one hope (the absolute confidence of the effectiveness) of your calling (by God to a “so great” salvation)…

 

EPHESIANS 4:5

…one Lord (Jesus Christ), one faith (Christianity), one baptism (the only way to be saved…the baptism of the Holy Spirit)…

 

EPHESIANS 4:6

…one God, the Father of all (believers in Christ), who is over all (as their Sovereign God), and through all (using believers for His divine purposes), and in(dwelling) all (Church Age believers).

 

And there is only one way to heaven…John, Chapter 14, Verse 6…

 

JOHN 14:6

Jesus said to Thomas, the doubting apostle, “I am the way to salvation…and I am the truth (the Word of God), and I am the resurrection life…and no one comes to God the Father but through believing in Me.”

TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

The Lord’s Best Gift to the Jewish Race was Himself

 

In a dream the Lord talks to Jacob in Genesis, Chapter 28, Verses 13 to 15…

 

GENESIS 28:13

“…I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac… the land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your descendants.”

 

GENESIS 28:14

“Your descendants will also be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and in you and in your descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed.”

 

GENESIS 28:15

“Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

 

In today’s lesson we’ll recap the gifts the Lord has offered to the Jewish race, but none of those gifts are as wonderful as the Lord giving the Jewish race the gift of Himself and His Word.

We’re grateful, Heavenly Father, for the privilege of studying Your absolute truth...the Word of God…

 

Father, you are indeed an awesome God…a Person we can count on…a Person who will never fail us, or forsake us, or leave us…thank you for the gift of You…thank you for the confidence You inspire in us through the gift of faith You have given us…

 

Teach us to count on You…help us to never be surprised when we see You keeping Your Word…calm our souls in such a way that we come to expect that You will do everything for us…help us acknowledge You and You only as the SOURCE of our lives…

 

We ask this through the power of God the Holy Spirit…in Christ’s name...

The Lord’s Best Gift to the Jewish Race was Himself

 

Romans, Chapter 9…Verses 1 to 5…

 

ROMANS, CHAPTER 9 - PASSAGE 1

 

ROMANS 9:1

I (Paul) am telling you the truth…I am in union with Christ on this…I am not lying to you…my conscience testifies along with me…I am filled with God the Holy Spirit and His enabling power in this matter…

 

ROMANS 9:2

…and I tell you that I keep on having great and sorrow and an incessant, haunting grief in my heart (I am heartbroken).

 

ROMANS 9:3

For if I (Paul) could, I would wish that I myself were accursed (made an anathema by God…sent to the Lake of Fire as a substitute) and separated from (my union with) the Christ (the Messiah) for the sake of my brethren (the Jews who are unbelievers), who are my “kinsmen according to the flesh…”

 

ROMANS 9:4

…my kinsmen who are Israelites, to whom belongs…the adoption as sons…and the glory…and the covenants…and the giving of the Mosaic Law…and the temple service…and the promises…

 

ROMANS 9:5

…my kinsmen who are of the lineage of the fathers (Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob)…and my kinsmen from whose lineage comes the Christ, the One who became flesh (and tabernacled among us)…the Messiah…the One who is Sovereign over all, THE God (Deity), the blessed One…who IS forever. Amen.

 

We are finishing up this first passage of Romans, Chapter 9 by looking at the irrevocable gifts the Messiah bequeathed to the Jews…

ADOPTION AS SONS

 

Under Roman law it meant that a parent could legally adopt a person, and then that person had the right to the name and the citizenship of the parent who adopted him, and the right to inherit his property. Best of all, the adopted son had the same rights and privileges as a natural born son.  For the believers in Christ of the Jewish race, like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob…and for the Church Age believer…we are adopted as sons and have the same rights and privileges as The Lord Jesus Christ.

THE GLORY

 

What is God’s glory?

 

GOD’S GLORY

The physical manifestation of God’s Being…it is God allowing His presence to be clearly seen.

 

God’s presence to the Jews was a cloud by day and a fire by night and led

them across the wilderness to the Promised Land!

THE COVENANTS

 

There were several covenants…five to be exact…that the Lord made with the Jewish race…the Abrahamic Covenant (a promised people), the Mosaic Covenant (a promised nation), the Davidic Covenant (a promised king and a Messianic line), the New Covenant (a promised future), the Palestinian Covenant (promised real estate).

CUSTODIANSHIP OF THE MOSAIC LAW

 

The Jewish race was given four hundred and ninety years to evangelize to the world…to spread the good news about the coming Messiah…to pass along the principles that would exist in a free nation.

THE TEMPLE SERVICE

 

This form of worship was simply a reminder of God’s special covenant with Israel and the Jewish race…much like our Lord’s Supper Celebration is a reminder of what the Lord did for all creatures at the Cross.

THE PROMISES

 

The promises concerned salvation…and they were to Israel only…thousands of promises on how they would be delivered to salvation.  Now that the Cross has happened, no promises are needed…salvation is a fact now, whereas in the past salvation was to be a future, but guaranteed event.  The Lord taught the Jewish race in a series of ritual, typically celebrated on holidays, that He would be the “lamb without spot or blemish who would take away the sins of the world.”  And He was…and of course, His salvation offer has been extended to us Gentiles as well…

THE FATHERS

 

In Exodus, Chapter 3, Verse 16, the Lord says to Moses…

 

EXODUS 3:16

Go and gather the elders of Israel together and say to them, ‘The Lord…the God of your fathers…the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob…has appeared to me, saying, “I am indeed concerned about you and what has been done to you in Egypt.”

 

And we know the end of the story.  From Israel comes a long line of great men…Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Judah, Moses, Samuel, David, and Solomon to name a few.

THE MESSIAH

 

John, Chapter 1, Verse 14…

 

JOHN 1:14

And the Word (God the Son…the Lord) became flesh (Jesus Christ), and tabernacled among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the uniquely born one from the Father, full of grace and full of truth.

 

There is no greater gift that God can give us other than the gift of Himself.  Let’s take a quick music break and then we’ll find out exactly what that means…

THE MESSIAH

 

Romans, Chapter 1, Verses 1 to 4…

 

ROMANS 1:1

Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus…by calling an apostle…set apart for the gospel of God the Father…

 

ROMANS 1:2

…which gospel the father promised beforehand through His Old Testament prophets in the holy Scriptures…

 

ROMANS 1:3

…the gospel concerning His Son (the Lord Jesus Christ) who was born of (Mary) a descendant of David…born according to the flesh…

ROMANS 1:4

…who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to God the Holy Spirit of holiness…this Jesus Christ our

 Lord…

 

God the Father sent Deity in human form to the Jewish race…the Lord… Jesus Christ…born of a virgin…the perfect fulfillment of the Mosaic law…the fulfillment of every Old Testament promise concerning what would be seen that would help the Jewish race recognize their Messiah.  Hebrews, Chapter 2, Verses 16 and 17…

 

HEBREWS 2:16

For assuredly the Lord does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham (the Jewish race).

 

HEBREWS 2:17

Therefore, the Christ had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God the Father, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

 

One of the most visible signs of the Lord’s Messiahship was His genealogy, delineated in Matthew, Chapter 1…here’s Verse 1…

 

MATTHEW 1:1

The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham…

 

And a review of this chapter will show the path of the children of promise… from Abraham to Mary and her virgin birth…fourteen generations…five women…the line of David.  What an amazing honor that the one who became flesh and tabernacled among us was an Israelite…a tremendous gift to Israel.  Isaiah, Chapter 9, Verse 6…

 

ISAIAH 9:6

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us, and the government will rest on His shoulders…and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

 

Who is this Messiah, the Christ?  First Corinthians, Chapter 15, Verse 27

says…

 

FIRST CORINTHIANS 15:27

For God the Father has put all things in subjection under the Lord Jesus Christ’s feet. But when He says, “All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that God the Father is excepted who put all things in subjection to the Christ.

 

And what do we know about this Messiah…John, Chapter 1, Verses 1 to 3…

 

JOHN 1:1

In the beginning was the Word (the Lord), and the Word was with God the Father, and the Word was God the Son.

 

JOHN 1:2

The Word (the Lord) was in the beginning (not a beginning) with God the Father.

 

JOHN 1:3

All things came into being through the Word (the Lord), and apart from the Lord nothing came into being that has come into being.

 

The Lord is Deity…Jesus Christ is humanity…and He has always existed… the great I AM.  He is the Creator…Colossians, Chapter 1, Verses 16 and 17…

 

COLOSSIANS 1:16

For by the Lord Jesus Christ all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, both visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.

 

COLOSSIANS 1:17

He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

 

The Lord Jesus Christ is the Sovereign God of the Universe.  There is no one like Him.  And He thought so much of the Jewish race that He became one of them…and there is no greater way to prove your love for someone than to give yourself totally to him.  That’s exactly what the Lord did.

“…the jailer asked, “Sirs (talking to Paul and Silas), what must I do to be saved?”

 

ACTS 16:31

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and everyone in your household who also believes.”

 

ROMANS 10:10

…for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

 

SECOND PETER 3:9

The Lord is not slow about His promise of salvation, as some accuse Him of, but instead He is patient toward you unbelievers, not wishing for any to perish (in the Lake of Fire) but for all to come to repentance (a change of mind about having a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ).

 

LUKE 19:10

“For the Son of Man (the Lord Jesus Christ) has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
