Welcome To

BARAH MINISTRIES

a Christian Church

Rory Clark

Pastor-Teacher

Good Morning!

Welcome to Barah Ministries…a worldwide Christian Church based in Mesa, AZ…my name is Pastor Rory Clark.

Forgiveness is a critical part of the Christian Way of Living…Matthew, Chapter 18, Verses 21 and 22…

MAT 18:21

Then Peter came and said to Jesus Christ, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”

MAT 18:22

Jesus said to Peter, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.”

I wonder if this instruction came in handy for Peter when he betrayed the Lord…in Luke, Chapter 22, Verses 31 to 34, Peter’s self-righteousness came out…his dependence on self…when the Lord warned him about an upcoming future event…

LUK 22:31

“Simon (Peter), Simon (Peter), behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift all of you apostles like wheat…”

LUK 22:32

“…but I have prayed specifically for you, Peter, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, (will) strengthen (lead) your brothers.”

LUK 22:33

But Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, with You I am ready to go both to prison and to death!”

LUK 22:34

And the Lord said, “I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”

The Lord was telling Peter, you’re not as strong as you think.  Then the mistake…the moment of truth for Peter…Matthew, Chapter 26, Verses 69 to 75…

MAT 26:69

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a servant-girl came to him and said, “You too were with Jesus the Galilean.”

MAT 26:70

But Peter denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you are talking about.”

MAT 26:71

When Peter had gone out to the gateway, another servant-girl saw him and said to those who were there, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

MAT 26:72

And again Peter denied it with an oath, “I do not know the man.”

MAT 26:73

A little later the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Surely you too are one of them; for even the way you talk (your dialect) gives you away.”

MAT 26:74

Then Peter began to curse and swear, “I do not know the man!” And immediately a rooster crowed.

MAT 26:75

And Peter remembered the words which Jesus had said, “Before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.

But the Lord forgave Peter…John, Chapter 21, Verses 15 to 17…

JOH 21:15

So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son

of John, do you love Me more than these?” Peter said to Jesus, “Yes, Lord;

You know that I love You.” Jesus said to Peter, “Tend My lambs.”

JOH 21:16

Jesus said to Peter again a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”  Peter said to Jesus, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to Peter, “Shepherd My sheep.”

JOH 21:17

Jesus said to Peter the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because Jesus said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Tend My sheep.

The Lord allowed Peter to affirm his love for the Lord three times… forgiveness…it’s good for the soul.  Welcome to a place where you can learn to forgive through your dependence on God the Holy Spirit, and not through your own righteousness.

Let us pray...

We’re grateful Heavenly Father for the privilege of studying the absolute

truth...the Word of God…

Thank you for finding a way to bless your imperfect creatures without compromising Your integrity…thank you for always considering us worthy of forgiveness, even when we are at our worst…thank you for being someone we can run to in times of deepest need and darkest trouble…

Show us how to feel the blessings You have given us and how to believe all You say…

We ask this through the power of God the Holy Spirit...in Christ’s name... Amen.

TODAY’S STUDY
Even with the Flesh Inside There is No Condemnation

In Exodus, Chapter 20, Verse 25, the Lord says to Moses…

EXO 20:25

If you make an altar of stone for Me, you shall not build it of cut stones (stones altered by man), for if you wield your tool on it, you will profane it (you’ll pollute the altar).

God makes it clear throughout the bible that His creatures are guilty…that we are imperfect…that we are unrighteous before He makes us righteous.  Why?  It is because only those who are guilty need mercy.  If you are going to take advantage of God’s mercy, you have to be found guilty.  God graciously provided the law, not as something to follow, not as something to use as a way of life, but as a way to make us aware of our sinfulness… Romans, Chapter 5, Verse 20a…

ROM 5:20a

The Law came in so that the transgression would increase…

One thing we must learn as Christians is that the things we want to do to please God simply pollute our relationship with God.  I get so sick of hearing about how we must show “genuine repentance” when we sin for God to be impressed with us.  The truth is, what God is more impressed with is our guilt…so that when we are found guilty, He can show mercy.  Titus, Chapter 3, Verse 5…

TIT 3:5

The Lord Jesus Christ saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in (self) righteousness, but according to His mercy (after we are found guilty), by the washing of regeneration and through renewing by the Holy Spirit…

When you discover that you are guilty of an offense, that’s the time you need the mercy and forgiveness of others…and you would do well to look around and to see who is on your side…who is giving you mercy…when you are guilty.  The humans around you who really understand the plan of God are the ones who are most gracious to you when you are guilty.  They are not suckers, like you might consider them.  You are not “getting over on them” because they offer you mercy.  These are the ones who really understand their own sinful condition, and who can see clearly enough to have mercy on another when they are at their worst.  Galatians, Chapter 6, Verse 1 says…

GAL 6:1

Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.

As Christians, we are to recognize that no one with “the flesh” inside their body is immune to sinning…the spiritual equivalent of tripping and falling in the Christian Way of Living…and as humans, we are to have the same attitude toward those who trip and fall as the Lord has toward them…He forgives…He restores them.  We are to follow His lead.  The two words that best express this sentiment?  No condemnation.  Let’s pause for a moment to take the offering. And then we’ll learn more about this bold expression at the start of Romans Chapter 8.

THE OFFERING

Deacon Denny Goodall

We appreciate your gifts.  Because the Lord provides you with a way to be generous, you get a chance to give of your treasure so that others can benefit.  There is no greater expression of the unconditional love of God than giving.  Here’s what Paul has to say to the believers in Christ at Corinth concerning giving…Second Corinthians, Chapter 9, Verses 6 to 8…

2CO 9:6

Now this I (Paul) say…he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly…and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

In other words, be generous…the more seeds that are sown, the bigger the harvest.

2CO 9:7

Each one of us must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a joyfully willing giver.

God loves an attitude in you that WANTS TO give…not an attitude in you that thinks you HAVE TO give…

2CO 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed…

If you are benefitting from this teaching, show your appreciation through your gift.  Let’s welcome Deacon Denny Goodall to take the offering.

TODAY’S STUDY
Even with the Flesh Inside There is No Condemnation

We begin our study of Romans, Chapter 8 in the first two verses which read this way…

ROM 8:1

Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

ROM 8:2

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

And the word that comes to mind to express the sentiment of these two verses is dichotomy.

DICHOTOMY

Two completely opposed and totally contradictory viewpoints being offered for your consideration at the point of decision.

The word THEREFORE in Romans, Chapter 8 Verse 1 always sums up what has come before…and what has come before?  Self-condemnation.  Romans, Chapter 7, Verses 21 to 25…

ROM 7:21

I (Paul) find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good.

At the point of decision, we believers in Christ want to do the right thing.  Romans, Chapter 7, Verses 22…

ROM 7:22

For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man…

ROM 7:23

…but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members (the body).

ROM 7:24

Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?

ROM 7:25

Thanks be to God the Father through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.

What are the two totally contradictory viewpoints at the end of Romans 7?

Let’s take a music break before we continue…and reflect on what we are learning.

TODAY’S STUDY
Even with the Flesh Inside There is No Condemnation

DICHOTOMY

Two completely opposed and totally contradictory viewpoints being offered for your consideration at the point of decision.

In the flesh we believers in Christ are serving the law of sin that is bringing sin’s inevitable result, death, to the one who has THE LIFE…the resurrection life.

In the Spirit we believers in Christ are serving the law of God…the law that dominates our minds…the law that comes from our inner man…

And as we endure this internal battle…this struggle…three words free us…

NOW NO CONDEMNATION.  The dichotomy?  Self-condemnation versus “now no condemnation.”  Are you believers in Christ ready to stop beating yourselves up, thinking you are somehow being spiritual when you are doing it?

What are the two totally contradictory viewpoints, the dichotomy at the beginning of Romans 8?

The law of the Spirit of THE LIFE versus the law of sin and death, with death being sin’s natural result.  As Christians, we are commanded thusly…Romans, Chapter 12, Verse 2…

ROM 12:2

And do not be conformed to this world, but keep on being transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

How can we be transformed when there is a part of us (“the flesh”) that wants to be conformed?

How can we live a holy life and a godly life when there is a part of us (“the flesh”) that is absolutely antagonistic to God, when we still listen to (“the flesh”) regularly because it’s easy to listen to?

How can we be good Christians when we love rejecting our freedom and going back to the prison of slavery to “the flesh”?

Even with “the flesh” inside of our bodies, there is NOW NO CONDEMNATION.  God says so in His Word.

The Lord Jesus Christ took care of our souls at the Cross…Mark, Chapter 8, Verses 34 to 38…

MAR 8:34

And He (the Lord Jesus Christ) summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.”

The flesh is a cross.

MAR 8:35

“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and for the gospel’s sake will save it.”

MAR 8:36

“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?”

MAR 8:37

“For what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”

As humans, we can be bought…every one of us has a price…Mark, Chapter 8, Verse 38…

MAR 8:38

“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

So while Jesus took care of our souls at the Cross…God the Holy Spirit manages our body…Galatians, Chapter 5, Verse 17…

GAL 5:17

For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

God the Holy Spirit is responsible for turning our heads to Christ, and away from “the flesh” … Romans, Chapter 8, Verse 1…

ROM 8:1

Thereforethere is now no condemnation (not even one thing) for those who are in union with Christ Jesus.

God has given us a position.  Positional sanctification.  It’s our union with the Lord Jesus Christ…created by the Baptism of God the Holy Spirit.  It’s not even possible to be condemned in this position.  Not by God.  Not by anyone.  The Lord Jesus Christ and His crucifixion handled our “so great” salvation…it was Christ’s work for us at the Cross that made us dead to sin and dead to the law…Romans, Chapter 6, Verse 14…

ROM 6:14

For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

God the Holy Spirit and His enabling power guide our journey as part of THE Resurrection LIFE…it is the Spirit’s work indwelling us.  This is what Romans 8 will teach us…the fundamentals of our relationship with God the Holy Spirit…the one who is the master of our bodies and the indwelling flesh.  Your choice as a believer in Christ is self or Spirit.  IN learning about the Spirit, we will continue to learn one of the most important lesson in Christianity…our total dependence on God for everything.

When the Lord Jesus Christ

Promises Salvation, It’s a Guarantee!

ACT 16:31

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and everyone in your household who also believes.”

JOH 14:6

Jesus said to doubting Thomas, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through believing in Me.”

JOH 3:36

“He who believes in the Son has eternal life (the ZOE life); but he who does not obey the (command to believe in the) Son will not see (the Zoe) life, but instead the wrath of God the Father (the Lake of Fire) abides on him.”
