Rory Clark

Pastor-Teacher\

Good Morning!

Welcome to Barah Ministries…a Christian Church that makes a difference worldwide courtesy of the internet…Barah Ministries…a Christian Church that makes a difference locally in the Gilbert, Mesa, and Chandler, AZ communities.  My name is Pastor Rory Clark.  At Barah Ministries, our God is the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and we teach the Word of God from God’s perspective…not from man’s perspective.

The Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ, designs Christians to live a life of abundance.  John, Chapter 10, Verse 10 says…

/JOHN 10:10

The thief (Satan) comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy (the sheep)…I (the Lord Jesus Christ) came that believers in Christ may have the resurrection life, and have it abundantly.\

There are only two orientations on planet earth.  One is the false shepherd orientation, sponsored by Satan and his kingdom of death and darkness.  The false shepherd is out to kill the sheep.  The other orientation is The Good Shepherd Orientation, sponsored by the Lord, God the Son.  He took on the form of man as Jesus Christ and came to earth to become the God-Man…100% God and 100% man in one person forever.  The Good Shepherd’s orientation is for the benefit of the sheep…giving them an abundant life and filling them up to all the fullness of Christ.  Believers in Christ…how’s your life?  Is it abundant?  Second Corinthians, Chapter 13, Verse 5 encourages believers in Christ to…

/SECOND CORINTHIANS 13:5

Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith…examine yourselves! Or do

you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is indwelling you—unless indeed you fail the test?\

Believers in Christ are “in the faith” when they are living a life of abundance.  Believers in Christ fail the test of self-examination when their lifestyle indicates that they are disobedient to God’s Word…in essence living a life of scarcity.  So if your self-assessment is that you are not living a life of abundance…the resurrection life…you must know that you are living a life you were not designed to live…a counterfeit life.  Matthew, Chapter 24, Verse 24 says…

/MATTHEW 24:24

For false Christs and false prophets (a.k.a. false shepherds) will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect (believers in Christ).\

Even though this verse is part of a passage concerning events in the Tribulation period, it is every bit as true here in the Church Age.  Satan and his emissaries from the kingdom of death and darkness are always looking to lead believers in Christ astray in their souls, and they are always sending false teachers to implant false, misleading ideas into our souls.  When we follow their direction we forfeit our victory through our union with Christ, and we forfeit the life of abundance the Lord Jesus Christ pioneered for us.  Welcome to a place where we can learn to see with our spiritual eyes this life of abundance God the Holy Spirit is implanting in us.

/TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

Your Spiritual Gift is Part of Your Identity\

I have a question for you…who are you?  What is your identity?  People struggle to answer these questions when they’re asked.  Yet these questions demand answers during the crises of life, because that’s the time it is easy to forget who you really are.  As a believer in Christ you have an identity.  Do you know what it is?  Do you remember it when you are under pressure?  Do you protect it?  Do you use it to give you the mental serenity that is such a necessary part of living in Satan’s kingdom?  Do others benefit from your identity?  In today’s lesson we’ll examine how your spiritual gift connects to your identity.

Here’s June Murphy to sing her song WORTHY…and it will give us a taste of our identity from the spiritual perspective.

Before we begin our opening prayer…let’s look at Romans, Chapter 8, Verse 26…

/ROMANS 8:26

In the same way God the Holy Spirit also keeps on helping our weakness (in prayer) for we believers in Christ do not know how to pray as we should, but God the Holy Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words…\

God the Holy Spirit makes up for any deficiencies we have when we are praying…in John, Chapter 14, Verse 13, the Lord Jesus Christ says…

/JOHN 14:13

Whatever (things) you ask in My name (in line with My will)…that I will do…so that God the Father may be glorified in the Son.\

And as if we may not have heard…John, Chapter 14, Verse 14…

/JOHN 14:14

If you ask Me anything in My name, I (the Lord Jesus Christ) will do it.\

The Lord Jesus Christ lives to answer the prayers of His believers.  When you pray, what do you pray for?  Most of us pray for blessings.  But how often have you prayed for crisis?  You see, the truth concerning human nature is that we are at our best when we are in crisis, not when we are in comfort.  We are at our best when we are being challenged to grow.  Crises challenge us…in fact, invite us to grow.  So as we pray today, let’s not forget to pray for the crises that will propel us to the next level of growth in our lives.

/OPENING PRAYER

Let us pray...\

Almighty God and Father…thank you for sending Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die instead of us…thank you for allowing Him to shed His blood on a Cross as payment for the sins of all creatures…thank you for raising Him from the dead on the third day so that He could win the strategic victory in the Creator-creature Conflict.  As we look at the life of Your Son, we see crisis after crisis during His time here on earth…and we know that You either allowed or created those crises to advance our Lord spiritually…and to prove to us that with Your power we, too, can do all things as we encounter the crises…

Give us the wisdom, Father, to see the crises in our lives as a gift…help us to understand that comfort is our enemy, except when our comfort zone is so big that it is equipped to accommodate any situation we encounter with a contentment regardless of circumstances…with a peace that surpasses comprehension…keep on showing us how to love unconditionally…to love all people…in all circumstances…just as You do…because love conquers all…give us the courage to think as You do…to hope as You do…to have faith…and to see ourselves through Your eyes…

…we ask this through the power of God the Holy Spirit…in Christ’s

name...Amen.

/TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

Your Spiritual Gift is Part of Your Identity\

We’re studying Romans, Chapter 12…let’s look at and listen to the three passages we have been studying so far…Romans, Chapter 12, Verses 1 to 8…

/ROMANS 12:1

Therefore…I (Paul)…urge (beg…beseech) you…brethren (you believers in Christ)… as you keep on being persuaded because of the many mercies of God…TO PRESENT YOUR BODIES (by choice, not by command…as) AS A LIVING SACRIFICE…holy and acceptable to God the Father… which is your spiritual service…worship.\

/ROMANS 12:2a

And do not be conformed to this world (by Satan, by his cosmic system of thought, and by the flesh resident in you)…instead, keep on being transformed by (God the Holy Spirit)…through the renewing of your mind (by studying the Word of God)…\

/ROMANS 12:2b

…so that you may see clearly…through the testing of experience…what the will of God is…and the will of God is that which is good for you and that which is acceptable to Him and that which is perfect (in result).\

/ROMANS 12:3

For through the grace given to me by God the Father (the grace gift of being an apostle…Paul’s spiritual gift), I (Paul) say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think…but to think so as to have sound judgment…the thinking that’s in line with the measure of faith given to you by God (your spiritual gift).\

/ROMANS 12:4

For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function…\

/ROMANS 12:5

…so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.\

/ROMANS 12:6

Since we each have a gift (charisma) that is different according to the grace (charis) given to us by God…each of us is to use the gift accordingly…if he has the gift prophecy (preaching the Word of God)…to exercise it according to the proportion of his faith…\

/ROMANS 12:7

…if he has the gift of service, to exercise it in his serving…or he who teaches, to exercise it in his teaching…\

/ROMANS 12:8

…or he who exhorts, to exercise it in his exhortation…he who gives, to exercise it with liberality…he who leads, to exercise it with diligence…he who shows mercy, to exercise it with cheerfulness.\

As we continue our study of spiritual gifts, God is opening my spiritual eyes and He is helping me to see how much pain is present in the lives of the people around me...in fact, how much pain is present in the people around ALL of us all the time...especially in the lives of believers in Christ.  God is also allowing me to see the pain that is buried deep inside of me, constantly running my life in directions that are not good for me.

Do your spiritual eyes see the pain of those around you?  Do you care about them?  Your spiritual gift is one of the things God has given you that allows you to express your caring for others and that allows you to help heal those around you.  Spiritual gifts are especially designed for believers in Christ.

What is your identity?  Another way to ask that question is... “Who are you?”  If you’re a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, June Murphy told you about your identity in her song WORTHY...our identity is that we are EN KRISTO IESU as the Greek language describes it...we are in union with the Lord Jesus Christ...and He makes us worthy...He makes us deserving.  The Lord demonstrates, through His decision and through His action of dying for us on a Cross...AND thorough His decision to be in union with us...that we are deserving...not because there is anything is us that is worthy or deserving, but because of His mercy.

Believers in Christ throw those two words around on a regular basis...worthy and deserving.  I’m not worth it...I don’t deserve it...or I am worth it and I do deserve it...yet I never hear them follow up with why they are worthy or why they are deserving...and they are worthy and deserving because they are in union with Christ...for He alone is worthy and through our union with Him, He made us worthy.

WORTH and DESERVEDNESS is part of your identity as a believer in Christ whether you believe it or not.  And anyone who tries to steal or tries to pervert or tries to get you to doubt your identity is not on your side.  Unfortunately, sometimes, the people who are used by Satan and the kingdom of death and darkness to steal, to pervert and to destroy our identity are those closest to us.  I’ve been at the wrong end of those attempts many times...family...spouses...children...business partners.   Even worse?  Sometimes the person who is out to steal, to pervert and to destroy your identity...the person who is most not on your side...is YOU!

What do I mean by identity?  It’s who you are.  Satan wants us believers in Christ to believe that we are the sins we commit.  He offers us an identity based on our sins.  If you engage in the sin of homosexuality, then your identity is you are a homosexual.  If you engage in the sin of stealing, then your identity is you are a thief.  If you engage in the sin of having an extramarital affair, then your identity is you are a cheater.  And we know once a homo, always a homo...once a thief, always a thief...once a cheater always a cheater in Satan’s kingdom.  Satan wants believers in Christ to believe that our identity is created by the sins we commit.  The problem is, we believe him.

The Lord Jesus Christ has a different viewpoint about your identity.  In the matter of your identity, you are...

/A BELIEVER IN CHRIST’S IDENTITY

FORGIVEN

ROMANS 4:7

“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven (in the past and stand forgiven forever)...and whose sins have been covered.\

/A BELIEVER IN CHRIST’S IDENTITY

IN UNION WITH CHRIST

SECOND CORINTHIANS 5:17

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, and all believers in Christ are, he is a new creature...the old man things passed away (they died)...behold, new man things have come.\

/A BELIEVER IN CHRIST’S IDENTITY

ABSOLUTELY RIGHTEOUS

SECOND CORINTHIANS 5:21

God the Father made the Lord Jesus Christ who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God the Father in union with Him.\

/A BELIEVER IN CHRIST’S IDENTITY

A PRIEST

FIRST PETER 2:9

But you Church Age believers are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light...\

/A BELIEVER IN CHRIST’S IDENTITY

AN AMBASSADOR

SECOND CORINTHIANS 5:20

Therefore, we believers in Christ are ambassadors for Christ, as though God the Father were making an appeal through us (because He is)...we beg you unbelievers on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.\

Let’s take a music break.  What if the trials of this life...the crises of this life, are simply God’s mercies in disguise?  Let’s hear Laura Story sing her beautiful song BLESSINGS, then we’ll take a break.

/TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

Your Spiritual Gift is Part of Your Identity\

Giving is both a spiritual gift and a function of our ambassadorship.  When it is a spiritual gift it is supernatural.  People with the supernatural spiritual gift of giving do so with an insane generosity.  Those who give as a function of their ambassadorship give based on ability.

God wants us to be great stewards of the gifts He gives us…and financial blessings are one of those gifts.  In First Peter, Chapter 4, Verse 10 it says…

/FIRST PETER 4:10

As each one has received a special spiritual gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.\

Your generosity is an expression of love that serves the body of Christ.  As you give today, be generous with the financial gifts the Lord has entrusted to you, knowing, always knowing, that the Lord will provide more resources to you in abundance.  Barah Ministries needs your support.  Show your faith in God and show your confidence in His provision with your generosity.  Let’s welcome up Deacon Denny Goodall with today’s offering message.

/TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

Your Spiritual Gift is Part of Your Identity\

Welcome back!  Your spiritual gift is part of your identity.  You are…

/A BELIEVER IN CHRIST’S IDENTITY

A SAINT

ROMANS 1:7

...to all who are beloved (the divinely loved ones) of God the Father in Rome, called as SAINTS (not sinners)...grace to you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.\

/A BELIEVER IN CHRIST’S IDENTITY

WITH A SPIRITUAL GIFT

FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:1

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware.\

/A BELIEVER IN CHRIST’S IDENTITY

LOVED UNCONDITIONALLY

FIRST JOHN 4:8

The one who does not love unconditionally does not know God the Father, for God the Father is unconditional love.\

/A BELIEVER IN CHRIST’S IDENTITY

THE CHILD OF A KING

EPHESIANS 1:5

God the Father predestined us believers in Christ to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will...\

/A BELIEVER IN CHRIST’S IDENTITY

AN HEIR WITH AN INHERITANCE

ROMANS 8:16-17

God the Holy Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,//and if children, and we are, heirs also...heirs of God the Father and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, and we do, so that we may also be glorified with Him.\

Here is the other biblical passage on spiritual gifts…First Corinthians, Chapter 12, Verses 1 to 31…

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:1

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I (Paul) do not want you to be unaware.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:2

You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols, however you were led.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:3

Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Holy Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the agency of God the Holy Spirit.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:4

Now there are varieties of spiritual gifts, but the same God the Holy Spirit (works behind the scenes in all of them).\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:5

And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord (works behind the scenes in all of them).\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:6

There are varieties of effects, but the same God the Father who works all things in all persons.\

All three members of the Godhead are involved in our spiritual gift, making it supernatural.

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:7

But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit (a spiritual gift) for the common good.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:8

For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit…\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:9

…to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit…\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:10

…and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:11

But one and the same God, the Holy Spirit, works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:12

For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.\

We depend on each other.

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:13

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.\

We are in unity.

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:14

For the body is not one member, but many members.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:15

If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:16

And if the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:17

If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be?\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:18

But now God the Father has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:19

If they were all one member, where would the body be?\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:20

But now there are many members, but one body.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:21

And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” \

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:22

On the contrary, it is much truer that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary…\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:23

…and those members of the body which we deem less honorable, on these we bestow more abundant honor, and our less presentable members become much more presentable…\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:24

…whereas our more presentable members have no need of it. But God the Father has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked…\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:25

…so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:26

And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it…if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:27

Now you are Christ’s body (as a whole), and individually you are members of the body.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:28

And God the Father has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues.\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:29

All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they?\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:30

All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they?\

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 12:31

But earnestly desire the greater gifts.  And I show you a still more excellent way.\

We’ll study this passage in the coming weeks, but let’s sum up things we’ve learned about spiritual gifts so far in this way…

One of the great things about having a friend is that friends remind you who you are when you forget.  Friends know your true identity.  I guess that makes me your friend.  Every week I consider it my job to remind you who you are, because I am convinced that every week you forget who you are in identity.  You forget who you are in Christ.  John, Chapter 10, Verse 10 says…

/JOHN 10:10

The thief (Satan) comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy (the sheep)…I (the Lord Jesus Christ) came that believers in Christ may have the resurrection life, and have it abundantly.\

You have a spiritual gift.  Your spiritual gift is supernatural, and you have a built in supernatural desire to use it.  Your spiritual gift is specifically to use with the members of the body of Christ.  Your priesthood is between you and God.  Your ambassadorship is between you and unbelievers.  But your spiritual gift is between you and believers in Christ.

We need each other.  When you are not learning and using your spiritual gift for the benefit of the body of Christ, you’re actually cheating the body of Christ and you’re cheating yourself.  It’s the equivalent of not working out.  The body gets flabby when we don’t work out.  The body of Christ gets flabby when we don’t use our spiritual gifts.

The beautiful thing about Barah Ministries is that we are beginning to open our eyes to the need for each other.  Let’s keep growing together and taking advantage of our unity.

/GOD WANTS YOU!

Make the Most Important Decision of Your Life\

The closing moments of our study are for the benefit of anyone who does not have a personal relationship with the Sovereign God of the Universe, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  We want you to know that GOD WANTS YOU.

The bad news is that all of us are born in a state of unrighteousness.  We are born physically alive and spiritually dead as ungodly unbelievers.  It’s not our fault, but it is our circumstance.  In First Corinthians, Chapter 15, Verse 22, the bible says…

/FIRST CORINTHIANS 15:22a

For all in union with Adam at physical birth (and that is every human who comes to earth) are set to die the second death in the Lake of Fire…\

But there’s good news amidst the bad news!  It’s an easy decision to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved…you can do it anytime and anywhere… let’s see what happened in a prison in Rome in Acts, Chapter 16, Verses 25 to 34…

/ACTS 16:25

But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them…\

/ACTS 16:26

…and suddenly there came a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken…and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened.\

/ACTS 16:27

When the jailer (a prison guard) awoke and saw the prison doors opened, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.\

/ACTS 16:28

But Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here!”\

/ACTS 16:29

And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas…\

/ACTS 16:30

…and after the prison guard brought Paul and Silas out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”\

/ACTS 16:31

And Paul and Silas said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and everyone in your household who also believes.”\

There are no works of any kind necessary to be saved…simply faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ is the ticket to eternal life…

/ACTS 16:32

And Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to the jailer together with all the people who were in his house.\

/ACTS 16:33

And the jailer took Paul and Silas that very hour of the night and washed their wounds, and immediately he was baptized, he and all his household.\

/ACTS 16:34

And the jailer brought Paul and Silas into his house and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, having believed in THE God (the Lord Jesus Christ) with his whole household.\

How did our jailer friend get saved?  In a crisis, he recognized He needed a Savior.  He asked someone who knew what it took to be saved.  Believers in Christ presented the accurate gospel message.  The jailer did what was suggested.  Romans, Chapter 1, Verses 18 to 20…

/ROMANS 1:18

For the wrath of God the Father is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and against the unrighteousness of men (unbelievers) who suppress the truth by their unrighteousness…\

/ROMANS 1:19

…because that which is known about God the Father is evident within them (even from inside of them) for God the Father made it evident to them (from inside of them).\

/ROMANS 1:20

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible attributes, God’s eternal power and God’s divine nature, have been clearly seen by all men, being understood even through what has been made (in nature…God’s creative work), so that all mankind are without excuse before God.\

God provides the good news, the gospel message, from the outside to all of us through believers in Christ…and He also puts knowledge of Himself on the inside of all of us…He even puts knowledge of Himself in nature…so that we have multiple opportunities to be saved.  God makes Himself clearly visible.  Acts, Chapter 16, Verse 31…

/ACTS 16:31

“Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and everyone in your household who also believes.”\

John, Chapter 3, Verse 36…

/JOHN 3:36

“He who believes in the Son has the resurrection life right at that moment… but he who does not obey the command to believe in the Son will not see the resurrection life…instead the wrath of God (the Lake of Fire) abides on him.”\

It’s a simple choice to become a believer in Christ so you can be saved for all eternity.  Don’t miss your opportunity!  Here’s June Murphy to sing about the attitude of our God in saving you.  Why did he save us?  All because He wanted to!
