Welcome To

BARAH MINISTRIES

a Christian Church

Rory Clark

Pastor-Teacher

Good Morning!

Welcome to Barah Ministries…a worldwide Christian Church based in Mesa, AZ…my name is Pastor Rory Clark.

James, whose real name was Jacob, was the half brother of Jesus Christ.  There is real wisdom in the opening chapter of his letter…James, Chapter 1, beginning at Verse 1…

JAM 1:1

James, a bond-servant of God the Father and a bond-servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes who are dispersed abroad…Greetings!

JAM 1:2

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you fall into trials of many kinds…

JAM 1:3

…knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

For Christians, there are trials from the enemy on the outside…there are temptations from the enemy on the inside…they are tests that allow us to see where we stand as Christians…do you pass the tests?  Do you endure the trials and the temptations without giving in?  Do you consider it joy that you are getting tests that illuminate your advance as a Christian?  Usually not.  James calls us to enjoy trials and temptations because of the experience they produce… endurance.

JAM 1:4

And let endurance have its perfect result (maturity), so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

JAM 1:5

BUT if any of you lacks wisdom, and many of you do, let him ask of God the

Father in prayer, who gives to ALL generously and without reproach, and wisdom will be given to him.

How does the request for wisdom look when the Christian executes it?

JAM 1:6

But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.

JAM 1:7

For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord…

JAM 1:8

…being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

The double-minded Christian is one who is not depending on God and His Word…but instead is a person who counts on himself and vacillates between listening to the tempting of the flesh and enabling power of the Spirit.

JAM 1:9

But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position…

JAM 1:10

…and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away.

JAM 1:11

For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away.

JAM 1:12

Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

We are to have the right attitude during trials and temptations…not a desire to escape but a desire to enjoy the trails and temptations and to endure.

JAM 1:13

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.

An omniscient God does not need to test us.  He knows us.  But He does allows the testing of trials and temptations.

JAM 1:14

But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.

The source of lust, and thus the source of tests, is “the flesh.”

JAM 1:15

Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

JAM 1:16

Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.

God does allow us to endure trials and temptations for the purpose of edifying our souls and for the purpose of producing the proper response in every situation…through experience.  Most of the time, however, in lust, we create and are caught up in our web of debauchery.

JAM 1:17

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from God the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

There is the sin and death produced by Satan, the enemy of God, and there is the good fruit produced by God the Holy Spirit.  Christians…take your pick.

JAM 1:18

In the exercise of His will God the Father brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

We are to resist the devil, firm in our faith and fixated on the Word of God.

JAM 1:19

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger…

JAM 1:20

…for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.

JAM 1:21

Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

JAM 1:22

But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

JAM 1:23

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, and some are, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror…

JAM 1:24

…for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

JAM 1:25

But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

JAM 1:26

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

JAM 1:27

Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Welcome to a place where you can gain the wisdom of the Sovereign God of the Universe…the Savior…the King…the Messiah…the Lord Jesus Christ…as we celebrate His memory with the Lord’s Supper.

THE LORD’S SUPPER CELEBRATION

Our Present Relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ is Sharing

The crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ has a continuing significance to all of us who have taken up a cross to follow him. We continue to remember both His death, and the new covenant it initiated, as we celebrate His life in the Lord’s Supper. In First Corinthians, Chapter 10, Verses 16, Paul wrote…

1CO 10:16

Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ?

In the Lord’s Supper, we are reminded that we share in everything associated with the Lord Jesus Christ because we are in union with Him…we are in fellowship with Him…we commune with Him…we are united in Him…we feast with Him.

The New Testament speaks of our sharing with the Lord Jesus Christ in several ways.  We share in His CRUCIFIXION; we share in His DEATH;

we share in His RESURRECTION… we share in His LIFE… we share in His UNITY.  Let’s give you a chance to share your offering and then we’ll celebrate the Lord’s Supper.  In just a moment, we’ll welcome up Deacon  Denny Goodall.

THE OFFERING

Deacon Denny Goodall

We appreciate your gifts. There is no greater expression of the unconditional love of God that resides inside the believer in Christ than the expression of giving.  If you are benefitting from this teaching, show your appreciation through your gift.

The apostle Paul appreciated the giving of the church at Philippi…he says to them, in Philippians, Chapter 4, Verses 15 to 17…

PHI 4:15

You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone…

PHI 4:16

…for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs.

PHI 4:17

Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account.

We look forward to hearing about the blessings that the Lord is crediting to your account as you give unselfishly for the benefit of others.  Let’s welcome up Deacon Denny Goodall to take the offering.

THE LORD’S SUPPER CELEBRATION

Our Present Relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ is Sharing

Let’s begin the celebration of the Lord’s Supper with a sharing of the elements.  WE hope those of you in the non-resident congregation have your bread and your cup handy to celebrate this sacred event.

THE LORD’S SUPPER CELEBRATION

Enjoying the Elements

Following God’s request, we keep on celebrating CHRIST and His Cross on a regular basis…we eat to remember who He is…His PERSON…we drink to remember His WORK, the voluntary sacrifice He made at the Cross on our behalf as our substitute…and we are grateful for what God has done for us.  First Corinthians, Chapter 11, Verses 23 and 24 say…

1CO 11:23

For I, Paul received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus Christ on the night in which He was betrayed took bread…

1CO 11:24

and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is, and keeps on being My body, which is broken for you; keep on doing this celebration for the purpose of remembering Me.”

When we eat the bread during the Lord’s Supper Celebration, we remember THE PERSON of the Lord Jesus Christ.

When we drink the cup, we remember THE WORK of the Lord Jesus Christ.  First Corinthians, Chapter 11, Verses 25 and 26 say…

1CO 11:25

In the same way the Lord Jesus Christ took the cup after supper, representing His death on the Cross, saying, “This cup is a new testament forged with My blood; keep on doing this celebration, as often as you drink it, for the purpose of remembering Me.”

1CO 11:26

“For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.”

As you enjoy the bread and the cup, enjoy the memory of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as well. Now and always, as the Lord’s Supper song reminds us to keep on giving thanks.

THE LORD’S SUPPER CELEBRATION

Our Present Relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ is Sharing

We share in the Lord Jesus Christ’s CRUCIFIXION…Galatians, Chapter 2, Verse 20…

GAL 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives indwelling me; and THE RESURRECTION LIFE which I now live in the flesh (in my physical body) I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me unconditionally and who gave Himself up instead of me.

Colossians, Chapter 2, Verses 20 and 21…

COL 2:20-21

If you believers in Christ have died with Christ at the Cross to the elementary principles of the world, and you have, why, as if you were still living “in the world,” … (by the world’s standards) do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!”

Since we are dead to the world, we believers in Christ are no longer obligated to listen to the world or to the flesh and its “worldly” recommendations.

We share in the Lord Jesus Christ’s DEATH…Romans, Chapter 6, Verse 4…

ROM 6:4

Therefore we believers in Christ have been buried with Him through the baptism of the Spirit into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in the newness of THE LIFE.

We share in the Lord Jesus Christ’s RESURRECTION…Ephesians, Chapter 2, Verses 1 to 6...

EPH 2:1

And when you were unbelievers, you were dead in your trespasses and sins…

EPH 2:2

…in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world,

according to the prince of the power of the air (Satan), walking according to the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience (unbelievers).

EPH 2:3

Among them we believers in Christ too all formerly lived in the lusts of our

flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature

children of wrath, even as the rest.

Then another great BUT from our God, just like the one in Romans, Chapter 3, Verse 21…BUT NOW APART FROM THE LAW…

EPH 2:4

But (even though you were a sinner…ungodly…unrighteous) God the Father, being rich in mercy, because of His great unconditional love with which He loved us…

EPH 2:5

…even when we were dead in our transgressions, God the Father made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)…

EPH 2:6

…and the Father raised us up with Christ in resurrection, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in union with Christ Jesus…

Colossians, Chapter 2, Verse 13…

COL 2:13

When you were dead in your transgressions and dead in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God the Father made you believers in Christ alive together with Christ, having forgiven us all our transgressions…

Now as believers in Christ we have a new, a powerful, and a unique life and a new and powerful position…THE LIFE.  This new life, powered by the indwelling God, the Holy Spirit, and the new position in union with Christ, demand that believers in Christ have a new set of values.  Colossians, Chapter 3, Verse 1…

COL 3:1

Therefore if you believers in Christ have been raised up (that is, resurrected) with Christ, and you have, keep on seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

COL 3:2

Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

COL 3:3

For you have died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God the Father.

COL 3:4

When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

COL 3:5

Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.

As a Christian, your LIFE is in Him, and His LIFE is in you.

We share in the Lord Jesus Christ’s UNITY.  Paul suggests in First Corinthians, Chapter 11, Verse 28 that at the Lord’s Supper…

1CO 11:28

…a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

Paul criticized the Corinthian Christians for their manner of observing the Lord’s Supper. The wealthy members were coming first, eating a great meal and even getting drunk. The poor members came last, still hungry. The wealthy were not sharing with the poor.  First Corinthians, Chapter 11, Verses 20 and 21…

1CO 11:20

Therefore when you meet together, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper…

1CO 11:21

…for in your eating each one takes his own supper first; and one is hungry and another is drunk.

They were not really sharing in the life of Christ, for they were not doing what the Lord would do. They did not understand what it means to be members of the body of Christ, in UNITY, and that members have responsibilities toward one another.

So as we examine ourselves, we need to look around to see whether we are treating one another in the way that Jesus commanded. If we are united with Christ, then we ought to be mindful of our unity with each other. So the Lord’s Supper, by picturing our union with Christ right now, also pictures our UNITY with each other.  As Paul wrote in First Corinthians, Chapter 10, Verse 17…

1CO 10:17

Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread.

By participating together in the Lord’s Supper, we picture the fact that we are one body in union with Christ, with responsibilities toward one another in UNITY.

The Lord’s Supper reminds us of these spiritual realities…CRUCIFIXION, DEATH, RESURRECTION, LIFE and UNITY.  It is fitting to stop and remember the foundational principles on which the Cross of Christ was laid.

When the Lord Jesus Christ

Promises Salvation, It’s a Guarantee!

ACT 16:31

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and everyone in your household who also believes.”

JOH 14:6

Jesus said to doubting Thomas, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through believing in Me.

JOH 3:36

He who believes in the Son has eternal life (the ZOE life); but he who does not obey the (command to believe in the) Son will not see (the Zoe) life, but instead the wrath of God the Father abides on him.”
