TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

The Glory in You is Not Yet Manifest

Everything changed in the Garden of Eden.  Genesis, Chapter 1, Verses 26 to 31…

GEN 1:26

Then God said, “Let Us make mankind in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

GEN 1:27

God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

GEN 1:28

God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

GEN 1:29

Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you…”

GEN 1:30

“…and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food” … and it was so.

GEN 1:31

God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good…

Genesis, Chapter 2, Verse 7…

GEN 2:7

Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Genesis, Chapter 2, Verses 15 to 18…

GEN 2:15

Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.

GEN 2:16

The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely…”

GEN 2:17

“…but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”

GEN 2:18

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.”

Genesis, Chapter 2, Verse 22…

GEN 2:22

The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.

Genesis, Chapter 2, Verses 24 and 25…

GEN 2:24

For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

GEN 2:25

And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

At first, in the Garden, everything was good.  Then things changed… Genesis, Chapter 3, Verses 6 and 7…

GEN 3:6

When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

GEN 3:7

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.

Genesis, Chapter 3, Verse 17…

GEN 3:17

Then the Lord God said to Adam, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’ … cursed is the ground because of you; in toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.”

Everything was good…and then it was not.  With man’s permission and with man’s cooperation, Satan instigated man’s fall.  Everything was glorious.  Then it was not. And now we deal with the problem Satan created.

TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

The Glory in You is Not Yet Manifest

We have completed our overview on the subject of suffering in Romans, Chapter 8.  Let’s continue our study of the third passage in Romans 8 that extends from Verses 18 to 25…let’s look at and listen to the passage together, as we let the Word of God speak to our souls…

ROM 8:18

For I (Paul) know for a fact that the sufferings of this present time (both RIGHT NOW, and throughout the Church Age…this present evil age) are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed IN us believers in Christ (IN THE FUTURE).

ROM 8:19

For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.

ROM 8:20

For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope…

ROM 8:21

…that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

ROM 8:22

For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.

ROM 8:23

And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.

ROM 8:24

For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?

ROM 8:25

But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.

Let’s turn our focus to Romans, Chapter 8, Verse 19…

ROM 8:19

For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.

This verse zooms in to you.

If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and most of you are, you are a son of God.  In fact, you are more…you are an adopted adult son of God… you are a child of God…you are an heir of God.  Romans, Chapter 8, Verses 14 to 17…

ROM 8:14

For all who are being led by the Holy Spirit of God, and all of you believers are being led by Him, these are sons of God.

ROM 8:15

For you believers in Christ have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”

ROM 8:16

The Holy Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God…

ROM 8:17

…and if we believers in Christ are children of God, and we are, we are heirs also, heirs of God the Father and fellow heirs with the Lord Jesus Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.

When is the last time anyone stopped and stared at you…started pointing to you…held their hand over their mouths and gasped…turned to their friends and said, “Oh my God!  Look!  An adopted adult child of God!  Wow!  Can you believe it?”

To most people in the world, we, as believers in Christ, are invisible.  We, as believers in Christ, are hated.  John, Chapter 15, Verses 18 to 20 tell us why we are despised…

JOH 15:18

“If the world hates you, and it does, you know that it has hated Me (the Lord Jesus Christ) before it hated you.”

JOH 15:19

“If you believers in Christ were of the world, and you are not, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but instead I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.”

JOH 15:20

“Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, and they did, they will also persecute you…

Suffering is a regular part of the believer in Christ’s life in Satan’s kingdom.

Your glory is not yet manifest.

Right now, no one sees you as you are…as a son of God…an adopted adult son of God…a child of God…an heir of God.  But then, no one saw the Lord Jesus Christ as He was, either…Isaiah, Chapter 53, Verses 2 to 4…

ISA 53:2

For the Lord Jesus Christ grew up before God the Father like a tender shoot, and like a root out of parched ground…Jesus has no stately form or majesty that we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.

There was nothing special about Jesus’s appearance that we would automatically be attracted to Him.  In fact, it was the opposite.

ISA 53:3

Jesus was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and a man acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide their face, He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

His world contained the same suffering our world contains…those who were supposed to welcome Him with open arms…the Jews…rejected Him…were repulsed by Him…they refused to believe He was The Messiah.

ISA 53:4

Surely our griefs Jesus Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

People believed the Lord’s suffering meant He was being punished for sins.

So it is with you.  No one sees you as you are because your glory is not yet manifest.  Its manifestation is a future event, even though the glory lives in your right now.  For now, you live in an evil age…the Church Age.  Galatians, Chapter 1, Verses 3 to 5…

GAL 1:3

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ…

GAL 1:4

…who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father…

GAL 1:5

…to whom be the glory forevermore. Amen.

Your glory is not yet manifest.

What does it mean when something is manifest?  It means that the thing that is manifest is clearly visible.  Romans, Chapter 8, Verse 19…

ROM 8:19

For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.

You are a surprise party waiting to happen.  Your glory will be revealed at a future date.  Your glory will be clearly visible for all to see.  How does Katy Perry say it?  “Baby you’re a firework!  Come on show us what you’re worth!”  The manifestation of our glory is an event we wait for with eager anticipation.  Until then evil…Ephesians, Chapter 5, Verses 15 and 16…

EPH 5:15

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise…

EPH 5:16

…making the most of your time, because the days are evil.

For right now we suffer…for right now we are surrounded by people and by things that drag us down…and we would do well not to take our minds and our hearts and our bodies to those places that drag us down…we would do well not to stimulate the flesh…we would do well not to listen to the world…we would do well not to put ourselves in harm’s way.  Yet here we all stand…covered by the flesh…and that’s what the world sees in us…our flesh…your body does the dirty work that keeps your glory from being manifest…your body is a jail sentence, in remembrance of Adam’s fall.  God easily could have, yet He did not remove the flesh at the moment of salvation.  So “the flesh” is concealing our glory.

Paul says, in First Thessalonians, Chapter 1, Verses 3 to 12…

2TH 1:3

We apostles ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren (believers in Christ), as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged by God, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater…

2TH 1:4

…therefore, we apostles ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.

2TH 1:5

This is a plain indication of God’s righteous judgment so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering.

2TH 1:6

For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you…

2TH 1:7

…and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire…

2TH 1:8

…dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

2TH 1:9

These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power…

2TH 1:10

…when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—for our testimony to you was believed.

2TH 1:11

To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and that God will fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power…

2TH 1:12

…so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord will be revealed IN us at a future date because we are in union with Christ…First John, Chapter 3, Verses 1 to 3 say…

1JO 3:1

See how great an unconditional love God the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

1JO 3:2

Beloved (divinely loved ones), now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be (our glory is not yet manifest). We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

1JO 3:3

And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

God has lavished us believers, and in fact all mankind, with His unconditional love.  The Lord indwells us.  The Lord has bathed us in His power.  The world does not see who we are.  Our magnificence as sons of the living God is lost on the world.

Our glory is not yet manifest.

Yet when the Lord comes back, we will be with Him, and we will see Him for whom He is…and we will see ourselves as we really are…the children of the King.  All the things He has made new will be laid bare for the eyes of all to see.  Philippians, Chapter 2, Verses 9 to 11…

PHI 2:9

For this reason also, God the father highly exalted the Lord Jesus Christ, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name…

PHI 2:10

…so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth…

PHI 2:11

…and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

When the Lord Jesus Christ

Promises Salvation, It’s a Guarantee!

ROM 3:10

…as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one”

ROM 5:8

But God the Father demonstrates His own unconditional love toward all mankind, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

JOH 3:17

For God the Father did not send the Son (the Lord Jesus Christ) into the world to condemn the world, but the Father sent His Son into the world that the world might be saved through believing in Him.

JOH 1:12

But as many as received the Lord (taking advantage of the free gift of salvation), to them He gave the right (once and for all time) to become children of God…to those who believe in Christ’s name…
