Angelic Conflict 416: The CREATOR'S Will is That You Be Mentally Alert in the Matter of Doctrines

WELCOME TO BARAH MINISTRIES

Good Morning!

Let’s Make a Mental Shift

In preparation for the study of the Word of God, your first shift is a mental shift.  The Word of God Gives You Power.

As a believer in Christ, when you study the Word of God you become aware of the power system that God put in place on your behalf.  Philippians, Chapter 4, Verse 13 says…

PHI 4:13

I can do (the) all things through (the divine power of) Him who strengthens me (by continuing to pour His enabling power into me).

Your mental shift brings to your consciousness God’s gracious provisions that allow you to accomplish anything you desire in this life.  You give the troubles weighing you down into the care of your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because He cares for you and He considers your problems to be His responsibility.

INVITATION TO RESTORATION

Make a Spiritual Shift

The second shift, before you study the Word of God, is a spiritual shift.  During this spiritual shift you offer control of your soul to God the Holy Spirit. As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are commanded to allow the Holy Spirit to fill up our deficiencies in Ephesians, Chapter 5, Verse 18…and He does His job!

EPH 5:18

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but (keep on) be(ing) filled with the Spirit…

Thus we have a choice…to be controlled by the thinking of the kosmos, world, or to be controlled by the third member of the Triune Godhead…God the Holy Spirit…during this bible study.  Now is the time to make your choice and to announce it to your God in silence, as we begin another biblical lesson designed for the renewing of your mind.

SILENT REFLECTION

Be Occupied with the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ

Please take a few moments in silence, to reflect, to open your heart to the truth, and to fix the eyes of your soul on the author and perfector of your faith, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…

OPENING SONG

I Am Beautiful

OPENING PRAYER

Let us pray...(0:30)

We’re grateful Heavenly Father for the privilege of studying the absolute truth...the Word of God...

Help us to be sober…help us to be on the alert…knowing that because you have an enemy…we believers in Christ have an enemy…and with your divine omnipotence, help us to overcome the enemy’s lies as we diligently seek to know the real You…

We ask this through the power of God the Holy Spirit...in Christ’s name...Amen.

TODAY’S STUDY

The CREATOR’S Will is that You Be Mentally Alert in the Matter of Doctrines

As we begin our look at the doctrine of rebound, I want to warn you.  Think.  That’s the warning.  Don’t get impatient.  Think.  Study.  Don’t be a baby bird, and open your mouth, and beg for worms…don’t look for the answer to be given to you.  If you seek, the answer will appear.  Follow the thinking.  God the Holy Spirit will make the issues clear to us if we have the questions.

How did this pursuit start?  It started with an intriguing question from a trusted friend…

CRITICAL QUESTION

Do you see any biblical connection between confessing your sins and the filling of the Spirit?

When I want to learn something, I start asking questions.  My friend asked a great question, and even though I knew it was going to be a lot of work, and even though I knew it was a sacred cow, I was willing to investigate.

Is there a biblical connection between confessing your sins and the filling of the Spirit?

Here’s the teaching of a Church that first introduces the Holy Spirit.

Bible Teacher’s Website

It is important to distinguish between the indwelling of the Holy Spirit which is permanent, and the filling of the Holy Spirit which is temporary depending on the use of confession of sin.  When we sin we lose the filling of the Holy Spirit, but not the indwelling of the Spirit.

You might ask, if you are engaging in critical thinking, “Is this true?”  You might summon the question, “What does the bible have to say about this assertion?  Is there a filling of the Spirit?  Is there an indwelling of the Spirit?  Can you lose the filling of the Spirit?”

Is there a filling of the Spirit?  The filling of the Spirit is documented here…

EPH 5:18

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but (keep on) be(ing) filled with the Spirit…

Even though we may not know what the filling of the Spirit is at this point, the bible gives it a mention in Ephesians, Chapter 5, Verse 18.

Is there an indwelling of the Spirit?  The indwelling of God the Holy Spirit is documented here…

1CO 3:16

Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the (Holy) Spirit of God (in)dwells in you?

1CO 6:19

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in(dwelling) you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

Even though we may not know what the indwelling of the Spirit is at this point, the bible gives it a mention in First Corinthians, Chapter 3, Verse 16 and in First Corinthians, Chapter 6, Verse 19.

Can you lose the filling of the Spirit?

The assertion is that, “When we sin we lose the filling of the Holy Spirit.”  Is it true?  When I look for “lose the filling of the Spirit” in the New American Standard Version of the bible, I do not see it.  All the New Testament verses that have the word “lose” in it connect to “lose your life” or “lose heart,” but nothing on losing the filling of the Sprit.

There are these two verses…

EPH 4:30

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

1TH 5:19

Do not quench the Spirit…

An inquisitive mind might ask, “What does it mean to ‘grieve’ the Holy Spirit?”  An inquisitive mind might also ask, “What does it mean to ‘quench’ the Holy Spirit?”  We won’t attempt to answer these questions right now, but you can see that a serious student of the Word of God, when asking questions, a critical part of learning, starts down a path which is not so nice and neat.  The answer to these questions cannot be determined in thirty minutes with three commercials.  This is not a situation comedy.

So the unanswered question at this point is, “Can you lose the filling of the Spirit?”  Now certainly more questions may arise at this point, and you can keep questioning and never really seek an answer.  We aren’t trying to take you on that wild goose chase.  But if you have other questions that are coming to your mind, they are worth writing down.

BREAK

When I Think About Home

Welcome back!

Here are some of the tings I have learned…I studied a book called Rebound and Keep Moving!  Here is the promotional excerpt from the book…

Rebound & Keep Moving!

Rebound & Keep Moving!is the key that unlocks the Christian way of life. After salvation the sin nature remains a relentless adversary, tempting the believer to sin and live in carnality. When the believer sins, fellowship with God is destroyed, the filling of the Holy Spirit is temporarily lost, and spiritual progress ceases.

Rebound & Keep Moving!

Rebound is the simplest yet most incredible concept in the spiritual life. Rebound defeats sin. Guilt, anguish, remorse over past failures vanish knowing that God forgives and forgets all past sins. Rebound is our access to intimacy with the Lord, the gateway to divine power in our lives, our license to serve the Lord. Rebound opens the door to the wonderful freedom the grace of God offers to every believer in Jesus Christ.

I am still wrestling with the question, “Can you lose the filling of the Spirit?”  Here’s an excerpt from page four of the book.

Rebound and Keep Moving! – Page 4

If the sin problem was resolved at the Cross, why is sin still an issue? If all sins are already paid for, why must you rebound?  To be forgiven!  Sins were not forgiven at the Cross.  Only the penalty of sin is removed once and for all at the Cross.  Christ’s substitutionary Spiritual death accomplishes redemption, but not forgiveness.

You might ask, if you are engaging in critical thinking, “Is this true?”  You might summon the question, “What does the bible have to say about this assertion?”  In John, Chapter 1, Verse 29, the Lord Jesus Christ is described this way…

JOH 1:29

The next day he (John the Baptist) saw (the Lord) Jesus (Christ) coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

Hmmm…takes away the sin…how about Colossians, Chapter 1, Verses 13 and 14, which say…

COL 1:13

For He (God the Father) rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son…

COL 1:14

…in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

First John, Chapter 2, Verse 1…

1JO 2:1

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous…

1JO 2:2

…and He Himself (the Lord Jesus Christ) is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

1JO 2:12

I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake.

So then I look back at this assertion…

Rebound & Keep Moving!– Page 4

Christ’s substitutionary spiritual death accomplishes redemption, but not forgiveness.

This assertion…in light of these verses…invites more questions.  But let’s not get sidetracked.  Let’s keep pursuing the question at hand.  “Can you lose the filling of the Spirit?”

Rebound & Keep Moving!– Page 12

Spirituality is the absolute status of being in fellowship with God, under the control of God the Holy Spirit.  Carnality is the absolute status of being out of fellowship, under the control of the sin nature.

Rebound & Keep Moving!- Pages 12 - 13

Every time we sin we move out of the bottom circle, losing temporal fellowship.  We become carnal when we sin; we become spiritual when we rebound.

Rebound & Keep Moving!– Page 14

Rebound is the first doctrine a new believer must learn to progress spiritually.  Shortly after salvation, a new believer will sin and lose fellowship with God.  Unless the filling of the Holy Spirit is recovered he will not advance in the Christian life.  Doctrine cannot be applied in his life.

Rebound & Keep Moving!– Page 21

The instant we acknowledge our sins to God He cancels our sins and the initial repercussions of our loss of fellowship.

The assertion here is that you can lose and recover the filling of the Spirit.

You might ask, if you are engaging in critical thinking, “Is this true?”  You might summon the question, “What does the bible have to say about this assertion?”

This begs even more questions.  What is fellowship with God?  Can you lose and regain the filling of the Spirit?

Does anything you have just heard seem consistent with the character and nature of God?

The Creator wants you to be mentally alert in the matter of biblical doctrines.  As Karen Carpenter might say, “We’ve only just begun” our look at this doctrine and at the aspects of critical thinking we must employ if we really want to grow in the Christian Way of Life and if we really want to enjoy the freedom of the Zoe Life…the life of abundance.
