TODAY’S LESSON

The Lord Jesus Christ is the SOURCE of TRUTH

 

Truth is at the foundation of a great relationship.  The Sovereign God of the Universe, the Lord Jesus Christ, is interested in having a great relationship with you.  So from His mouth comes truth as the foundation of that relationship.  Imagine if it were another way.  Imagine if you were always wondering whether what God says is true or not.  You’ve experienced that feeling with a person…wondering if you were being deceived.  From the very character of the Godhead is a promise to you…the truth, the whole truth, and  nothing but the truth…right down to the very core of God’s existence.

 

Bold statements from the Lord Jesus Christ…first in John, Chapter 8, Verses 31 and 32…

 

John 8:31

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My Word, then you are truly disciples of Mine…

 

John 8:32

…and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

 

The Lord’s truth frees us from bondage to sin and the law.  Then again in John, Chapter 14, Verse 6…

 

John 14:6

Jesus said to doubting Thomas, “I am the way, and I am the truth, and I am the resurrection life; and no one comes to God the Father but through believing in Me.”

 

The Lord is not only saying He tells the truth…he is saying He IS the truth right to the core of His being.  Then again in John, Chapter 1, Verse 14…

 

John 1:14

And the Word (The Lord) became flesh (true humanity…Jesus Christ), and tabernacled (lived for a while) among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the uniquely born One from the Father, full of grace and full of truth.

 

The glory of the Lord is His truth.  Jesus also said, in John, Chapter 8, Verse 45…

 

John 8:45

…because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.

 

There are those who don’t believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, not in His Person…who He is…not in His Word…what He says. 

 

All members of the Godhead share the same truth in their very essence…the Lord Jesus Christ praying to His God, the Father, says in John, Chapter 17, Verses

 

John 17:17

Father…sanctify (set apart) those you have given Me in the truth; Your word is truth.

 

God the Holy Spirit is truth…the Lord Jesus Christ tells us of Him in John, Chapter 16, Verses 12 to 14…

 

John 16:12

“I (the Lord Jesus Christ) have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.”

 

John 16:13

“But when He, God the Holy Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for the Spirit will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.”

 

John 16:14

“God the Holy Spirit will glorify Me (the Lord Jesus Christ), for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.”

 

God wants His truth to be inside of us as well, right down to the core of our very being…Psalm 51, Verse 6…

 

Psalm 51:6

Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, and in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.

 

God is not interested merely in “eye wash” … He does not want us to live a life where we have a beautiful outside with corruption going on in the inside.  At every moment God is changing us into His own likeness, with truth at our very core.

 

God’s enemy is the antithesis of truth, so much so that God says a lie is Satan’s identity…not just something he does…John, Chapter 8, Verse 44…

 

John 8:44

“You (unbelieving Jews) are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

 

Lies are an abomination to God.  Satan, the enemy of God, has succeeded in deceiving us, bringing falsehood to our lives.  He misrepresents God and has blinded us…His interference with our lives makes us false in many ways.  His fate is not good…Revelation, Chapter 12, Verse 9…

 

Revelation 12:9

And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil

and Satan, who deceives the whole world…

 

When we see God at work in us, He is breaking down all the falsehood in us to the very core, and is rooting it out.  At our very foundation, God wants truth in us through and through.  When you think about it, what a comfortable place to be…full of truth and in His hands.
