Why did God the Father create Barah Ministries?

 

The Father provides a place for you to get to know His Son…the Lord Jesus Christ…the One who has authority over all thingsincluding all the governments of the earth!  There is no reason for you to worry about what the government is doing because Jesus Christ controls history, and nothing happens on earth without His permission.

 

The apostle John describes the Lord Jesus Christ in Revelation, Chapter 1, Verses 5 to 7…

 

REVELATION 1:5b

…Jesus…is the Christ…the faithful witness…the firstborn resurrected from the dead…and the ruler of the kings of the earth. He is the One who loves us unconditionally and who released us from our sins by His blood—

 

REVELATION 1:6

…and He has made us Church Age Believers to be a kingdom of priests to His God and Father—to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

 

REVELATION 1:7

Behold, Jesus is coming with the clouds…and every eye will see Him…even those who pierced Him…and all the tribes of the earth will beat their breasts in anguish because of Him. So it is to be. Amen.

Does this in any way sound like a mere man?  Jesus Christ is GOD!  Believers in Christ have a lot to look forward toas the future unfolds.

 

God the Father created Barah Ministries to give you a place to learn the Word of God…the Bible…the absolute truth.  In one of His final prayers on earth, Jesus made a request of His Father on your behalf…John, Chapter 17, Verses 16 and 17…

 

JOHN 17:16

Those who believe in Meare not citizensof the world…even as I am not a citizen of the world.

Set those who believe in Me apart in a sphere of truth…Your Word is truth.

 

God the Father answered the Lord’s prayer by giving us the Word of God to cleanse us from the poisonous propaganda of Satan’s kingdom.  God the Father not only gave us the Word of truth…He also gave us His Son, who IS the truth…and He gave us God the Holy Spirit who leads us into all the truth.  That’s quite a sphere of protection and provision from our loving God.

 

God the Father created Barah Ministries so you’d have a place to learn about the strategy of God’s enemy, Satan, whom God made ‘the ruler of this world.’Satan wants us to think we can be “Christ-like.”  Satan wants his dream to be our dream…Isaiah, Chapter 14, Verse 14…

 

ISAIAH 14:14b

‘…I (Satan) will make myself like the Most High.’

 

Satan thinkshe can be like God.  Satan thinks he doesn’t need God.  He wants us to think depending on God is a crutch.  Romans, Chapter 1, Verse 25 says…

 

ROMANS 1:25

…unbelievers…the ones who practice ungodliness and unrighteousness…exchanged the truth about God for a lie…and they worshiped and served the creature (Satan)…rather than serving the Creator who created both the creature and them…He who is the blessed One forever (the Lord Jesus Christ). Amen.

 

Depending on self is depending on Satan, but he is an unworthy leader.  Don’t buy into his rebellion against God.  Don’t follow him.  Depend on the One who created you!

LESSON INTRODUCTION

 

You’ve probably heard the word oxymoron in the course of your life.  An oxymoron is a contradiction in terms.  For example, “The Sounds of Silence.”Silence doesn’t have a sound.  Jumbo shrimp.  Passive aggressive.  The living dead.  Big baby.  There are many.  The worst oxymoron is Christian religion.

 

Christianity is not a religion, it’s a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.  Religion, the strategy God’s enemy, Satan, inflicts on the human race, seeks to drag Christianity into itself to pervert Christianity.  In today’s lesson, we’ll learn the reason for the many denominations so that we can be clear on the difference between denominations and Christianity.  In addition, we’ll examine a religion to see how they counterfeit the Lord Jesus Christ, His Word, and the gospel message.

We’re grateful, Heavenly Father, for the privilege of studying Your absolute truth...the Word of God…

 

Thank you for the part of Your plan that is designed to get the truth to religious unbelievers who are deceived by their religion…thank you for orchestrating the possibility of salvation for them by bringing them resources that can help them choose to leave the religion and instead to have the freedom of a relationship with Your Son…thank you for using me as a mouthpiece for Your truth that can assist those who are interested in making the most important decision of their lives…

 

…open our minds to the truth Father…give us the spiritual discernment to know the difference between true teachers and false teachers…help us to realize that despite the teachers we have, we are responsible for our own spiritual decisions…lead us to the right decision…

Religious Denominations are an Attack Against the Lord

 

LESSON PART ONE

 

We continue our study of Paul’s letter to the first-century Colossian believers.  The letter is a warning to these new believers in a home-based church about false teachers and false teaching.  Whenever new churches form, Satan, the enemy of God always sends in his emissaries to pervert the church with attacks…on the sufficiency and Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ…on the Word of God…and on the gospel message.

 

We've paused at Colossians, Chapter 4, Verse 6.  Before we finish the letter, we wanted to offer you present-day examples of false teachers and false teaching.  Religion is a great place to look.  Religion is Satan’s strategy against the human race…his greatest deception.

 

Last week we looked at the deception called Roman Catholicism and the deception called the Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Today we’ll look at the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints, also known as LDS or the Mormons.

 

Let me make one thing clear.  I am neither condemning these institutions nor am I condemning the people in them.  I have a great deal of compassion for anyone who is deceived by anything, including myself.  No one likes being lied to.Yet I owe it to you as a Pastor, and I owe it to everyone who comes to these messages, to tell you the truth so that you can examine it for yourselves and so you can make up your own mind about what you think is true.

 

You and you alone are responsible for the teaching you accept and internalize.  All of us have teachers…none of us came here knowing a thing…and you are responsible for the teaching you live by.  If you get duped by a car salesman…no big deal.  If you get duped about God…it’s a huge deal.  I want your eyes to be opened to the subtlety of the falsehoods that false teachers promote with their false teaching.  The apostle Paul had the same responsibility.

 

Religions provide homes for false teachers and false teaching.  They offer religious rules, rituals, and man-made traditions that distort the Word of God in an attempt to rob you of a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ that can save you.  ALL religions suggest works-based self-righteousness to make you “a better person” or to allow you to earn your way into heaven.  They claim if you do good deeds, and if you stop sinning, God will let you into heaven.  The Word pf God says otherwise.

 

Religion is spiritual and mental bondage.  I was part of a religion for twenty-one years, and I was part of a cult for another twenty-nine years.  By teaching you how to detect counterfeits, I’m not being mean.  Twice God helped me escape the bondage of religion.  Are you in bondage to religion?  Are you in bondage to what your parents taught you?  Parents can be wrong.  Do you want to be free?  If you do, last week’s lesson and this week’s lesson may provide insight.

 

Three questions help you know whether teaching is false about Jesus, about the Word of God, and about the gospel message of salvation.

 

THREE QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU DETECT FALSE TEACHING

 

Who does the discipline say Jesus Christ is?

What is the discipline’s source of truth?

What does the discipline say it takes to be saved?

 

The correct answers?  Jesus Christ is God.  The Bible is the absolute truth.  Being saved is by grace not works.

 

Every religion has doctrines.  Typically, the doctrines are published.  By examining the doctrines, COMPARING THEM TO THE BIBLE, and making an assessment, you can surface the truth if you want to know it.  The Bible, along with God the Holy Spirit’s guidance is the way everyone who has escaped religion’s poisonous grasp has been freed from bondage.  Let’s get started with today’s insights.

 

The spiritual life has language, and one of the terms is denominations.  What is a denomination?  The Oxford Dictionary says a denomination is…

 

DENOMINATION

A recognized autonomous BRANCH of the Christian Church.

 

False.  Christianity doesn’t have any branches.  It’s just Christianity.  Yet there are more than two hundred“Christian denominations” in the United States and up to 45,000 “Christian denominations” globallyaccording to the Center for the Study of Global Christianity.

 

False.  God works in ones.  Ephesians, Chapter 4, Verses 4 to 6 say…

 

EPHESIANS 4:4

There is one body (of Christ…the Church Age believers)…and there is one God the Holy Spirit…just as also you were called in one hope of your calling…

 

EPHESIANS 4:5

…there is one Lord (Jesus Christ)…there is one faith (Christianity)…there is one baptism (the baptism of God the Holy Spirit)…

 

EPHESIANS 4:6

…there is one God and Father of all…who is over all…and through all…and indwelling all.

 

When people ask me if Barah Ministries is non-denominational I say no.

At the center of Christianity is Christ.  At the center of every religion is a person who has borrowed the truths of Christianity, perverted them to his own purposes and then has influenced the gullible with his false teaching.  Most call this brainwashing.  The apostle Paul’s letter to the Colossian church is a warning not to be deceived by false teachers and false teaching.

 

Billions of people in the world are deceived by religion.  These are well-meaning people who have a zeal for God and who get caught up in the cunning trickery of religion.  They are lured away from the freedom of being in a relationship with Christ into the slavery of “you gotta or you can’t be saved.”  It's pathetic.  Let’s examine…

 

THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST AND LATER-DAY SAINTS

(also known as LDS or the Mormons)

 

According to Ed Decker and Dave Hunt in their book The God Makers, a very interesting read and an even more intriguing YouTube video, the Mormons are a Satan-worshipping cult at the highest levels, with a friendly family face at the lower levels.  Before we answer the three questions about them, their story is worth hearing.

 

Although Mormons profess to believe the Word of God and claim they are Christians, they are not. Many of their teachings contradict Christianity and reject biblical truths.  Those who reject or pervert the truths about Jesus, about the Word of God, and about the gospel message of salvation are not Christians.

 

Joseph Smith, who referred to himself as “The Prophet,” founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the mid-1800s. He claimed to have seen a vision of God the Father and God the Son, in which they denounced modern Christianity and appointed Smith to reveal and restore “true” Christianity.  Okay…let's get this straight…the omnipotent God the Father and the omnipotent Lord and Savior Jesus Christ went to a man in upstate New York and asked him to restore the church.  Why would something this far-fetched captivate the loyalty of seventeen million people worldwide?

 

Three years later, Smith alleged the angel Moroni told him about some golden plates on which the Book of Mormon was written. Despite Smith's questionable background and tendency toward perverting the truth. many believed him and a new religion was born.

 

The Book of Mormon is an extra-Biblical work described as a new revelation that is “another witness” to the truth of the Bible.  Yet the book has many theological conflicts with the Bible and with historical and archeological facts.

 

For example, Joseph Smith and his associates asserted Professor Charles Anthon of

Columbia University verified the Egyptian characters on the golden plates. This same professor wrote a rebuttal letter soon after, saying he found the characters to be a hoax.

 

Many verses in Mormon scriptures have been changed over the years, as the church leaders defend themselves against criticism. These facts are enough to cast doubt on the veracity of the Book of Mormon.

 

One of the many areas in which Mormons fall short of saving faith is their belief that God the Father is merely an exalted man who earned his position by good works.  This directly contradicts the Bible, which states that God the Father has always existed.  Mormons believe they can attain the status of gods in the afterlife through their works here on Earth, and as a result of attaining god status, they can rule planets.  Yet no man can EVER become like God, despite what the serpent told Eve in the garden in Genesis, Chapter 3, Verses 5…

 

GENESIS 3:5

"God knows that in the day you eat from the forbidden tree, your eyes will be opened…and you will be like God…knowing good and evil.”

 

Satan lied to Eve, and she bought it.  When we return from the break we’ll take the offering, and then we’ll see how Mormonism does with the three questions you can use to debunk a religion.

LESSON PART TWO

 

Who does the discipline say Jesus Christ is?

 

Mormons believe Jesus was a god, but not Deity.  They believe He is the son of God, but lesser than God the Father.  Mormon teaching says that Jesus Christ is Satan’s brother.  They believe that Jesus had three wives and that He fathered many children.

 

What is the discipline’s source of truth?

 

In addition to using the Bible, the Mormons have other scriptures…Doctrines and Covenants…the Pearl of Great Price…the Book of Mormon…and the Articles of Faith.

 

Mormons are great at evangelism.  Have you ever noticed when you stay in a Marriott Hotel that there is a Bible and the Book of Mormon in the nightstand?  Mormon children go on missions, usually after high school, in various parts of the world to spread the gospel of Mormonism.  They are trained and equipped to go on the missions.

 

Gilbert, Arizona…where I live…is probably the Mormon capital of Arizona.  On any given day you can find well-dressed young men riding bicycles going door to door to spread the word of Mormonism.

 

What does the discipline say it takes to be saved?

 

Those who follow the Mormon faith believe they can attain heaven through works. They believe they have to prove their worthiness through morality.  While they claim faith in Christ, they also rely on following the commandments of the Mormon Church and practicing good works to earn their salvation.

 

The Bible is clear that good works can never earn heaven.  Titus, Chapter 3,

Verse 5 says…

 

 

TITUS 3:5

The Lord Jesus Christ saved us believers in Christ…not based on deeds which we have done in works based self-righteousness…but according to His mercy (not giving us the wrath of God that sin deserves)…by the washing of regeneration and through renewing by God the Holy Spirit…

 

John, Chapter 14, Verse 6 says…

 

JOHN 14:6

Jesus said to the doubting apostleThomas, “I am the way (to salvation) … and I am the truth (through the gospel message in the Word of God) … and I am the resurrection life (eternal life) …and no one comes to God the Father in heaven but through believing in Me.”

 

Acts, Chapter 4, Verse 12 says…

 

ACTS 4:12

“…there is salvation in no one else…for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved (except the name of the Lord Jesus Christ).”

 

Most people in the Mormon Church are deceived.  They know nothing of the real doctrines of their church. Many Mormons who have discovered the lies of Mormonism have left the church and come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ.  In the process, most of them lose their families and their marriage.

 

Here are a few more things that are Mormon doctrines.

 

They reject the Trinity…the Triune Godhead.  They believe the three separate and distinct Persons of the Godhead, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are not equal and they are not One.

 

They believe the soul exists in a pre-mortal state, and they must have children to provide bodies for these souls.  They want to have as many children as possible.

 

They believe they can influence the salvation of the dead…that people can become Mormon after they die.

 

They believe in mandatory tithing of ten percent of their household income.

They wear special underwear that keeps them pure.

 

It has been alleged that the Mormons are a spinoff from the Freemasons, another Satanic cult.  Many of the Founding Fathers of the United States were Freemasons…George Washington…Benjamin Franklin…Franklin D. Roosevelt… Gerald Ford…Winston Churchill…Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart…Duke Ellington…Nat King Cole…Henry Ford…and astronaut Buzz Aldrin among them.

 

Amazing people can be deceived.

I was going to add Pentecostalism to the list of religions I wanted to tell you about in honor of former Pentecostal Denise Jones and former Pentecostal church attender June Murphy.  Unfortunately, sorting through 7000 different branchesof Pentecostalism exhausted me.

 

If you’re a part of religion, check its doctrines and compare tehm to the Bible.  There’s nothing worse than being deceived.  Your eternal future depends on it.

GOD WANTS YOU!

He Wants You Make the Most Important Decision of Your Life

 

Imagine the perfect parent…a parent who wants to provide for you and protect youand lead you to a path that benefits you forever.  Here’s what such a parent might say to his child…Genesis, Chapter 2, Verses 15 to 17…

 

GENESIS 2:15

Then the Lord God took the first man, Adam, and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.

 

 

GENESIS 2:16

The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely…”

 

GENESIS 2:17

“…but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat…for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die (first spiritually, then physically).”

 

Our divine parent was really concerned about Adam’s well-being, so He informed Adam about two paths.  The Lord God told Adam, “If you take the path I’m recommending, it will work out for you.  If you take the other path, it’s not going to work out for you.”  He left the decision concerning which path to take up to Adam.  Today’s gospel message lays two paths before you and offers you the same choice.

 

Adam didn’t listen to the Lord.  He listened to his wife.  Genesis, Chapter 3, Verses 6 and 7…

 

GENESIS 3:6

When Isha (Eve) saw that the forbidden tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise (listening to a lie from Satan…the enemy of God)…she took from its fruit and ate…and she gave the fruit to her husband Adam who was with her…and he ate.

 

GENESIS 3:7

Then the eyes of both of them were opened…and they knew they were naked…and (in embarrassment) they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.

 

This is the fall of man.  And when Adam pursued the wrong path, his mistake was credited to you.  Romans, Chapter 5, Verse 12…

 

ROMANS 5:12

… just as through one man, Adam, sin entered into the world…and spiritual death entered the world through Adam’s sin…so spiritual death spread to all men…because all men were considered by God to have sinned when Adam sinned…

 

That’s not your fault, but it is your circumstance.  Because of Adam’s sin, credited to you, God considers you to be a sinner.  You were born physically alive and spiritually dead.  You were born in sin.

 

Sin is a debt you can never repay.  Sin created a broken relationship with God that you can’t mend.  Fortunately, God the Father overlooked the broken relationship and decided to send His Son to fix the sin problem you couldn't fix.  What a perfect parent!  What an obedient Son!  What an amazing gift!  First Peter, Chapter 2, Verse 24…

 

FIRST PETER 2:24

…and Jesus Christ Himself (voluntarily) bore (the penalty for) our sins in His own body on the Cross (enduring the wrath of God the Father)…so that we might die to the sovereignty to sin and live for righteousness… for by His wounds you were healed (He reconciled you to God).

 

Jesus Christ died so you could be saved.

 

The Lord’s plan was to leave heaven…to take on the form of man as Jesus…the Christ (the Jewish Messiah)…John, Chapter 1, Verse 14…

 

JOHN 1:14

And the Word (the Lord…God the Son) became flesh (as Jesus…the Christ) and lived among us…and we saw His glory…the glory of the only begotten One from God the Father…full of grace and full of truth.

 

Voluntarily, Jesus was humiliated, falsely accused, beaten beyond recognition, and subjected to crucifixion…the worst death in human history…as if He were a criminal.  Why?  All for the privilege of paying in full for every sin you would ever commit…past, present, and future…to restore the opportunity for you to have a relationship with God.  First Corinthians, Chapter 15, Verses 3 and 4…

 

FIRST CORINTHIANS 15:3

For I (the apostle Paul) delivered to you as of primary importance the gospel message I also received from God…that it was Jesus Christ who died for our sins according to the Old Testament Scriptures…

 

 

 

FIRST CORINTHIANS 15:4

…and that He was buried…and that He was raised from the dead on the third day…according to the Old Testament Scriptures…

 

The Lord’s plan was to make a full and effective payment for your sin debt.  He did it!

 

Therefore, right where you sit, right now, you can make the most important decision of your life…a decision that will affect you for all eternity.  Acts, Chapter 16, Verse 31…

 

ACTS 16:31

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved by God…you and everyone in your household who also believes.”

 

Remember the two paths?  You can take the path that allows you to spend eternity in heaven, or you take the path that condemns you to spend an eternity in the Lake of Fire.  John, Chapter 3, Verse 36…

 

JOHN 3:36

“He who believes in the Son has eternal life (right at that moment)…but he who does not obey the command to believe in the Son will not see the resurrection life…instead the wrath of God (the Lake of Fire) abides on him.”

 

Many refuse to believe that the Lake of Fire is a literal place.  The Bible proposes otherwise.  In Luke, Chapter 16, Verses 19 to 26 Jesus tells a story…

 

LUKE 16:19

“Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple (the color of royalty) and in fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day.”

 

LUKE 16:20

“And a poor man, a beggar, named Lazaruswas thrown at his gate, covered with ulcerated sores…”

 

LUKE 16:21

“…who was longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man’s table…and dogs kept on coming and licking Lazarus’ sores.”

 

LUKE 16:22

“Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom in Paradise…and the rich man also died and was buried in a tomb.”

 

LUKE 16:23

“In Hades (the unseen world of the departed under the earth) the rich man lifted up his eyes, being in torment (in the Lake of Fire), and saw Abraham far away in Paradise and saw Lazarus in his bosom.”

 

LUKE 16:24

“And the rich man cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue…for I am in agony in this flame (the Lake of Fire).’”

 

LUKE 16:25

“But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things…but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony.”

 

LUKE 16:26

"And besides all this, between us and you, there is a great chasm fixed so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able…and that none of you may cross over from there to us.’”

 

The Lake of Fire is a place of eternal torment reserved for and requested by everyone who rejects a relationship with the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.  There is a part of you that always wants to resist what is good for you, just like Adam.

 

The Lord doesn’t want that for you.  He wants a relationship with you, and if you agree to it, He will be in union with you, He will live inside of you, and you will be wherever He is forever and ever, both in this life and in the life to come.  All He requests is that you believe what He says is true.  In John, Chapter 6, Verse 37, the Lord says…

 

JOHN 6:37b

…the ones who come to Me to believe inMe…I will certainly not cast out into the outer darkness…the Lake of Fire.

 

John, Chapter 14, Verse 6…

 

JOHN 14:6

Jesus said to the doubting apostle, Thomas, “I am the way (to salvation), and I am the truth (through the gospel message in the Word of God), and I am the resurrection life…and no one comes to God the Father (in heaven) but through believing in Me.”

 

Take the easy path…the path to heaven.  Proverbs, Chapter 3, Verses 5 and 6 say…

 

PROVERBS 3:5

Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.

 

PROVERBS 3:6

In all your ways acknowledge Jesus, and He will make your paths straight.
