Welcome To

BARAH MINISTRIES

Rory Clark

Pastor-Teacher

Good Morning!

Welcome to Barah Ministries…an intimate, local Christian Church with a worldwide impact.  My name is Pastor Rory Clark.  Thanks for listening to this Bible lesson!

Why did God create Barah Ministries?

This ministry is one of the few places in the world where you can hear the truth that sets you free from mental slavery!  One form of slavery is a misperception about who God is, which leads to thinking that the ONE AND ONLY GOD and ruler of the universe has something against you!  John, Chapter 1, Verse 14…

JOHN 1:14

And the Word (the Lord…God the Son)…became flesh (as Jesus…the Christ…the Jewish Messiah)…and He lived among us…and we saw His glory…glory as of the only begotten One from the source of God theFather…full of grace and full of truth.

The Lord…God the Son…came to earth to seek and save those who are lost!  He loves you unconditionally and He wants a relationship with you.

At Barah Ministries, we’ll introduce you to the Lord so you know what He thinks. You’ll learn the Word of God verse-by-versefrom the Lord’s perspective and not from man’s perspective.  It’s always best to let God’s thinking and God’s truth shape your reality.  In First Peter, Chapter 2, Verse 2, the apostle tells us how to look at the Word of God…

FIRST PETER 2:2

…like newborn babies…long for the pure milk of the Word of God…so that by the

Word you may grow in respect to your salvation…

This lesson, through the miracle of the internet, will be broadcast free of charge to the remotest parts of the earth…and we’re confident the Lord knows how to get His Word to hearers who need it.

God has an enemy…Satan…whom God made ‘the ruler of this world.’  The Bible has many functional titles for Satan, and one of them is “the accuser of the brethren.”  Revelation, Chapter 12, Verse 10 says…

REVELATION 12:10

Now the salvation…and the power…and the kingdom of our God and Father…and theauthority of His Christ have come…for THE ACCUSER OF OUR BRETHREN has been thrown down (from heaven…a future event)…he who accuses believers in Christ before our God…both day and night.

Satan LOVES condemningbelievers in Christ, but he’s wasting his time because we are in union with Christ.  When He accuses us, He is accusing Jesus…the One we are in union with...another waste of time.  Romans, Chapter 8, Verse 1 says…

ROMANS 8:1

…(from the moment of salvation)…there is NO CONDEMNATION for those who are IN UNION WITH CHRIST JESUS (and that’s every believer in Christ).

Satan knows scripture well, but he is so arrogant he ignores it.As believers in Christ, realize the Lord does NOT condemn you, so don’t let anyone else condemn you, and don’t condemn yourself.

TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

What is Your Approach to Sharing the Gospel Message?

LESSON INTRODUCTION

A billionaire in Chicago found out he was dying and decided to give away his fortune in one-million-dollar increments to any person who could make a compelling case for how they would use the money. Having nothing to lose, and being pretty articulate, I gave it a try. Do you know the greatest thing about the situation? I didn't tell a single person I know about the offer!  I didn’t share.

The same is true for most Christians.  Believers in Christare in arelationship with the Sovereign God of the Universe…we have the resurrection life (eternal life)…our Lord is willing to save anyone who wants to spend eternity face-to-face with Him…and we don’t tell anyone about it…not even the people closest to us.We don’t share the good news about the Lord’s salvation offer…the gospel message! In today’s lesson, our passage from Colossians, Chapter 4 focuses us on evangelism.

OPENING SONG INTRODUCTION

Let’s hear some music!  Because there is only one way to get to heaven, by believing in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, many critics of Christianity say we’re an exclusive club, not an inclusive club.  There’s one word in the Bible that makes this accusation a lie.  Here’s June Murphy to sing the word in her song WHOSOEVER.

OPENING PRAYER

Let us pray...

We’re grateful, Heavenly Father, for the privilege of studying Your absolute truth...the Word of God…

Father, thank you for providing us with a “so great” salvation because we have placed our faith in Your Son…our Lord…Jesus…the Christ…to save us…thank you for allowing us to spread the good news about this salvation offer to the ends of the earth…thank you that no matter how bad we are, You want a relationship with us…it proves how different You are from members of the human race…

…as we learn about evangelism today, take the mystery out of it…help us to see the value of it…and especially help us to take the good news to the people that are most important to us despite their resistance…

…we ask this through the power of God the Holy Spirit…in Christ’s name...Amen.

TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

What is Your Approach to Sharing the Gospel Message?

LESSON PART ONE

The passage under study in Paul’s final chapter to the first-century Colossian believers is a short and power-packed passage that last week provided a lesson on prayer.  This week it provides a lesson on evangelism.  Let’s look at the passage… Colossians, Chapter 4, Verses 2 to 6…

COLOSSIANS 4:2

Keep on devoting yourselves to prayer…keep on being vigilant in prayer…with an attitude of thanksgiving…

COLOSSIANS 4:3

…praying at the same time for us as well…that God will open up to us a door for the Word (specifically the gospel message)…so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ…because of which mystery I have been imprisoned…

COLOSSIANS 4:4

…that I may make it clear about the case of which I ought to speak (the gospel message).

COLOSSIANS 4:5

Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity (God’s open doors).

COLOSSIANS 4:6

Let your speaking always be with grace…as though seasoned with salt…so that you will know how you should speak to each person.

To begin, we see the prayer connection from verse two to the rest of the passage.  We are praying for Paul and for each other as God provides us with chances to evangelize, and we are grateful that God allows us to spread His good news.

Christianity has a vocabulary.  What is evangelism?

EVANGELISM

Also called witnessing, it is sharing true and accurate good news about the Lord Jesus Christ's salvation offer…the gospel message…either in a public forum…in personal conversation…or through literature.  It lets people know they can have eternal life by investing their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation.

There are some things to remember about evangelism…

THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT EVANGELISM

1

If you have unconditional love for other human beings, you will evangelize.  You would NEVER want anyone to go to the Lake of Fire for all eternity.

It’s a heartbreaking thought that people I love are committed to being unbelievers.  God provides us to them…Second Corinthians, Chapter 5, Verse 20…

SECOND CORINTHIANS 5:20

…we believers in Christ are ambassadors for Christ…as though God the Father were appealing to unbelieversthrough us…because He is…we beg you unbelievers on behalf of the Christ (the Jewish Messiah)…be reconciled to God the Father.

As ambassadors, we represent the Lord in Satan’s kingdom.  It is our RIGHTand it is our RESPONSIBILITY to share with people what the Lord has done for us and them.  In Matthew, Chapter 28, Verses 18 to 20, the Lord gave believerswhat is called The Great Commission…

MATTHEW 28:18

And Jesus came up and spoke to His disciples, saying, “All authority has been given to Me by God the Fatherin heaven and on earth.”

MATTHEW 28:19

“Go…(a command)…and make disciples of all the nations…baptizing them in the name of God the Father and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit…”

MATTHEW 28:20

“…teaching them to observe all that I (the Lord Jesus Christ) commanded you…and lo…I am with you always…even to the end of the age.”

Most Christians are scared to death to share the good news about Jesus Christ with others, so they refuse to do it…just as I refused to share the good news about the billionaire’s offer.  It’s pretty selfish to keep good news to yourself, ESPECIALLY when you keep it from those you love.  You can change this!

THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT EVANGELISM

2

God will open doors to put you in a position to evangelize

Even though it’s a great idea, you don’t have to initiate an active campaign to evangelize.  God will provide you with many opportunities in your lifetime to spread the good news.  Let’s look at Colossians, Chapter 4, Verses 2 to 4…

COLOSSIANS 4:2

Keep on devoting yourselves to prayer…keep on being vigilant in prayer…with an attitude of thanksgiving…

COLOSSIANS 4:3

…praying at the same time for us as well (Paul referring to himself and those who are with him in the Roman prison)…that God will open up to us a door for the Word…so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ…because of which mystery I have been imprisoned…

COLOSSIANS 4:4

…that I may make it clear about the case of which I ought to speak (the gospel message).

What does one of God’s open doors look like?  Here’s what the Lord said to the church at Philadelphia in Revelation, Chapter 3, Verse 8…

REVELATION 3:8 (Wuest Translation)

“I know with absolute clarity your deeds. Behold, I have given to you as a permanent possession an open door which is permanently opened and no one can close…because you have but a small amount of power…and you have safeguarded My Word by observing it…and you did not deny My name.”

The church in Philadelphia had the vision to evangelize to a lost world, and the Lord opened a permanent door for them to do it, even though they had little power.

An open door can be five or ten minutes in a car with someone you know who is an unbeliever where you begin to find out about their spiritual life.  It can start with a question.  Recently, I asked a friend, “What is your spiritual life like?”  You don’t know what kind of answer will come from the question…so just listen.  It’s always fun to hear the answers.  If you’re more worried about how you sound than about what they are saying, you’ll miss it.  Abig evangelism problem is your EGO!

THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT EVANGELISM

3

Evangelism is best done in your personality and in your style.  God does not require you to do things you can’t do or things you don’t want to do.

This takes the pressure off of you.  God the Holy Spirit is the Chief Executive Officer of Evangelism according to the Lord…John, Chapter 16, Verses 7 to 11…

JOHN 16:7

But I (the Lord Jesus Christ) tell you the truth…it is to your advantage that I go away (back up to heaven)…for if I do not go away, the Paraclete (God the Holy Spirit) will not come to you…but if I go, and I am, I will send God the Holy Spirit to you.

JOHN 16:8

And God the Holy Spirit…when He comes…will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment…

JOHN 16:9

…concerning sinbecause some do not believe in Me (those who are physically alive and spiritually dead)…

JOHN 16:10

and concerning righteousness (the admission ticket to heaven)…because I go to God the Father and you no longer see Me…

JOHN 16:11

…and concerning judgmentbecause the ruler of this world (Satan) has been judged.

God the Holy Spirit makes sure that every creature who comes to earthhasmultiple opportunities to hear the gospel message in their lifetime…multiple opportunities to accept the gospel message…multiple opportunities to reject the gospel message.  God the Holy Spirit uses people like you and me to get the gospel message to people.

THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT EVANGELISM

4

The gospel message is not based on your beliefs…it’s based on the truth of the Word of God.

What are the truths God wants you to communicate?

Romans, Chapter 5, Verse 8…

ROMANS 5:8

God the Father demonstrates His own unconditional love toward all mankind…in that while we were yet sinners (while we were unrighteous, ungodly, unbelievers) …Christ died a sacrificial deathfor us.

John, Chapter 3, Verses 16…

JOHN 3:16

“For God the Father loved the world unconditionally…and He loved the world so much…that He gave His uniquely born Son (the God-man…the Lord Jesus Christ…to be crucified on a Cross)…so that WHOSOEVER believes in Him shall not perish, but haseternal life.”

John, Chapter 3, Verse 36…

JOHN 3:36

“He who believes in the Son has the resurrection life right at that moment…but he who does not obey the command to believe in the Son will not see the resurrection life…instead the wrath of God (the Lake of Fire) abides on him.”

John, Chapter 14, Verse 6…

JOHN 14:6

Jesus said to the doubting apostle, Thomas, “I am the way (to salvation)…and I am the truth (through the gospel message…the Word of God)…and I am the resurrection life…and no one comes to God the Father in heavenbut through believing in Me.”

Acts, Chapter 16, Verse 31…

ACTS 16:31

“Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved…you and everyone in your household who also believes.”

First Corinthians, Chapter 15, Verses 3 and 4…

FIRST CORINTHIANS 15:3

For I (Paul) delivered to you as of primary importance the gospel message I alsoreceived from God…that it was Jesus Christ who died for our sins according tothe Old Testament Scriptures…

FIRST CORINTHIANS 15:4

…and that He was buried…and He was raised from the dead on the third day…according to the Old Testament Scriptures…

When you think about it, these truths are easily committed to memory.  Ss often as you hear these verses, there's no excusenot to commit them to memory.  When I use my own words to evangelize, most often people say, “That's your opinion.”  When I quote Bible verses, I get silence.  God the Holy Spirit makes the truth of these verses penetrate to the very core of the souls of the hearers.  They have no choice but to accept or reject the message.

When we return from break, we’ll take the offering and then we’ll hear a few more things to remember about evangelism.

OFFERING INTRODUCTION

God is always encouraging generosity.  Proverbs, Chapter 11, Verse 25 says…

PROVERBS 11:25

The generous person will be prosperous…and he who waters, will himself be watered.

Be generous so those you help with your contributions may receive the gospel message implanted…and let the Word of God sprout from within them through the seeds nourished by God…and let the Word give them the strength to put one foot in front of the other during times of spiritual turmoil…especially our brothers and sisters in the persecuted churches around the world.

Let’s welcome up Deacon Denny Goodall with one of his always inspiring offering messages.

TODAY’S BIBLE LESSON

What is Your Approach to Sharing the Gospel Message?

LESSON PART TWO

Why do Christians have such a tough time with evangelism?  Many reasons!  One is thinking the salvation of the lost world depends on them.  It doesn’t!  John, Chapter 15, Verse 5 reminds us…

JOHN 15:5

I (the Lord Jesus Christ) am the vine…you believers in Christ are the branches…he who ABIDES in Me and I indwelling him…bears much fruit (the fruit of God the Holy Spirit)…for apart from Me you can do nothing.

Nothing happens apart from our union with Christ, including evangelism.  God is with us every step of the way as we tell people about Him.  Back to the passage…Colossians, Chapter 4, Verses 2 to 4…

COLOSSIANS 4:2

Keep on devoting yourselves to prayer…keep on being vigilant in prayer…with an attitude of thanksgiving…

COLOSSIANS 4:3

…praying at the same time for us as well…that God will open up to us a door for the Word (specifically the gospel message…a door no one can shut)…so that we may speak forth the mystery of the Christ…because of which mystery I (Paul) have been imprisoned…

COLOSSIANS 4:4

…that I may make it clear about the case of which I ought to speak (the gospel message).

Pray for opportunities to evangelize.  Pray for clarity as you speak.  Pray to make clear the mystery of Christ indwelling YOU as a believer in Christ...the absolute confidence of your future glory.Remember…a mystery in the Bible is something that was not revealed to previous generations of believers until the Lord was ready to do so.Now the final two verses of this passage…Colossians, Chapter 4, Verses 5 and 6…how do we treat those to whom we evangelize?

COLOSSIANS 4:5

Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the

opportunityasGod opens doors…(the Greek word is redeem…to select the right time).

This is a command from God to be wise with unbelievers, who are described as “outsiders.”

COLOSSIANS 4:6

Let the words always be spoken with grace…as though seasoned with salt (to makeunbelievers thirsty for the gospel message)…so you will know how you should speak to each person.

Graceful speech isn’t always sweet speech at the expense of truth.  Grace deals with the harsh realities of life with sensitivity.  Grace delivers the right words to unbelievers at the right time.  What’s the right time?  Often, it’s when people are on their backs looking up…hooked on drugs…hooked on alcohol…people who grew up in a cult…people getting divorced…people who have been betrayed… lonely people…people who just got fired.

More things to remember about evangelism…

THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT EVANGELISM

5

Evangelism is not a contentious interaction…it is not your chance to deliver bad news in frustration…it’s GOOD NEWS…so don’t argue.

Revelation, Chapter 22, Verse 15…

REVELATION 22:15

Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolatersand everyone who loves and practices lying.

That's a description of the lifestyle of unbelievers…the Bible describes them

as outsiders…they choose not to be on God’s team.  The Lord asks us to invite unbelievers to come from the outside to the inside.

How can you make a difference evangelizing to your unbelieving friends?

THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT EVANGELISM

6

The message must be custom-made for each person.  It requires listening before talking.  It requires preparation.

Here’s the apostle Paul’s approach to evangelism…

FIRST CORINTHIANS 9:19

For though I am a free man…free from bondage to all men…I have made myself a slave to all men, so that I may WIN more men for the Christ.

FIRST CORINTHIANS 9:20

To the Jews I became a Jew so that I might win Jews for Christ…to those who are under the Mosaic Law, I acted as if I am under the Mosaic Law though I am not under the Mosaic Law…so that I might win those who are under the Mosaic Law…

FIRST CORINTHIANS 9:21

…to those who are outside the law (Gentiles)…I become as one outside the law… even though I am not without the law of God…I am under the law of Christ (unconditional love)…so that I might win those who are outside the law (unbelievers).

FIRST CORINTHIANS 9:22

To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak…I have become all things to all men so that in all circumstances I may by all means SAVE some of them.

FIRST CORINTHIANS 9:23

I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may have the benefits of the gospel for myself as well.

The gospel message is a testament to God’s unconditional love for the human race.

As believers in Christ, we need to always be ready to share the gospel’s truth.First Peter, Chapter 3, Verse 15…

FIRST PETER 3:15

…but sanctify the Christ (the Jewish Messiah) as Lord in your hearts…ALWAYS being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you… yet with gentleness and reverence…

God creates receptivity…you provide the message.  Can we evangelize all the time?

THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT EVANGELISM

7

Know when evangelism is pointless.

You have to know when to press andwhen to pull back.  There are times when evangelism can’t work…in Matthew, Chapter 7, Verse 6 the Lord says…

MATTHEW 7:6

“Do not give what is holy to dogs…and do not throw your pearls before swine…or they will trample them under their feet…and turn and tear you to pieces.”

Since no one is guaranteed to be alive five minutes from now, evangelism is something to do NOW!  Who are the people you love who need to hear the gospel message?  Who are the people you despise who need to hear the gospel message?  Here’s what we ask from the Lord…

MAKE YOUR REQUESTS KNOWN TO GOD

Open a Door for the Word

Help us tell people about the mystery of Christ

Help us be clear when we are speaking

MAKE YOUR REQUESTS KNOWN TO GOD

Help us welcome outsiders

Let us speak gracefully

Make unbelievers thirsty for the truth

The passage of study today is a great passage from the apostle Paul to the church members in first-century Colossae.  As false teachers seek to penetrate the church with false teaching, Paul reminds them of the power of prayer and the power of evangelism.  Let's value Paul’s message in our own lives.  He is still speaking to us today.

THE GOSPEL MESSAGE

The Good News of Jesus Christ’s Salvation Offer to the Human Race

The closing moments of today’s lesson are dedicated to anyone, anywhere, who either is undecided or confused about having a relationship with the Sovereign God of the Universe, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  We want you to know that…

GOD WANTS YOU!

He Wants You Make the Most Important Decision of Your Life

The Savior of the whole world is Jesus Christ and He wants everyone to be saved…First Timothy, Chapter 2, Verses 3 and 4 say…

FIRST TIMOTHY 2:3

This is what is good and acceptable in the sight of the God who is our Savior…the Lord Jesus Christ…

FIRST TIMOTHY 2:4

…who desires for all men to be saved and who wants all men to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Here are seven things for every unbeliever to consider wheninvestigating a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

POINT 1

There is a God, and He is the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth

The first four words of the bible confirm His existence…Genesis, Chapter 1, Verse 1…

GENESIS 1:1a

In the beginning, GOD…

It’s a reference to God the Son.  The Lord isn’t shy about telling you who He is…Joel, Chapter 2, Verse 27…

JOEL 2:27b

I am the Lord your God…and there is no other god…

God the Son is the Creator…John, Chapter 1, Verse 3…

JOHN 1:3

All things came into being through the Lord…God the Son…and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

POINT 2

The CreatorCreated You

You are one of God’s creatures and He had a purpose in mind when He created you.  Genesis, Chapter 1, Verse 26…

GENESIS 1:26

Then God the Father said, “Let Us (God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit) make man in Our image…according to Our likeness…”

You are a spiritual being, and as such, you require a spiritual life.

POINT 3

God Has a Plan for All Mankind

God is organized…Acts, Chapter 2, Verse 23 tells us that the earth and the universe were created…

ACTS 2:23a

…by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God the Father…

God made all of His decisions in eternity past and we watch them unfold every

day.  His plan is designed for your benefit.

POINT 4

God Has a Personal Plan for You

Because God created you, God knows you intimately, He knows you by name, and He knows you better than you know yourself!  Matthew, Chapter 10, Verse 30 says…

MATTHEW 10:30

“…the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”

God custom-made you and He custom-made a life designed specifically for you.

POINT 5

God Reveals Himself in Ways That Make Sense to Human Beings

God wants you to know Him.  He is not hiding from you.  He is not hard to get to know…Romans, Chapter 1, Verse 20 says…

ROMANS 1:20

…since the creation of the world…the Lord’s invisible attributes…His eternal power…and His DEITY…keep on being clearly seen by everyone…being understood even through what has been made (reflected in nature)…so that all mankind is without excuse (in knowing of the existence of the Lord).

God doesn’t work in mysterious ways.  He works in completely predictable ways.  The apostle Paul describes the Lord Jesus Christ in First Corinthians, Chapter 15, Verses 3 and 4…

FIRST CORINTHIANS 15:3

For I (the apostle Paul) delivered to you as of primary importance the gospel message I also received from God…that it was Jesus Christ who died for our sins according to the Old Testament Scriptures…

FIRST CORINTHIANS 15:4

…and He was buried…and He was raised from the dead (the resurrection) on the third day…according to the Old Testament Scriptures…

POINT 6

God’s Enemy, SATAN, Does Not Want You to Know God

Satan does everything he can to keep you ignorant about God.  Second Corinthians, Chapter 4, Verse 4…

SECOND CORINTHIANS 4:4

…the god of this world (Satan) has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that

they might not see the light of the gospel…so they might not see the glory of the Christ (the Jewish Messiah)…who is the exact reflection of God the Father.

Are you aware of the ways Satan is lying to you about the Lord?

If you reject a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, you’ll live with Satan for all eternity.  Revelation, Chapter 20, Verse 10…

REVELATION 20:10

And the devil who deceived unbelievers was thrown into the Lake of Fire and brimstone…where the beast and the false prophet are also…and all of them will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

You DO NOT want to live for all eternity in the Lake of Fire.

POINT 7

You Owe God a Hearing

Since God created you, at least you need to consider His salvation offer.  He has placed a desire inside of you to know Him.  He sends this message from the outside so you can know Him.  He has you surrounded!  Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3, Verse 11…

ECCLESIASTES 3:11a

The Lord has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set a desire for a knowledge of eternity in everyone’s heart…

Do you spend ANY of your time getting to know the Lord? There is nothing more important for you in this life than a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.  John, Chapter 1, Verse 12…

JOHN 1:12

But whosoever acceptsa relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ…to them the Lord

gives the right to become children of God the Father…even to those who believe

in Jesus Christ’s name…

Acts, Chapter 16, Verse 31 says…

ACTS 16:31

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and everyone in your household who also believes.”

John, Chapter 3, Verse 36 offers an invitation and a warning…

JOHN 3:36

“He who believes in the Son has eternal life (right at that moment)…but he who does not obey the command to believe in the Son will not see the resurrection life…instead the wrath of God (the Lake of Fire) abides on him.”

Consider these things and then get to know the Lord…TODAY!  Do it now!

CLOSING SONG INTRODUCTION

Quite often our lives are filled with regret.  We look back into a past we cannot change and wish we could.  Lamentations, Chapter 3, Verses 22 and 23 remind us how the Lord handles things…

LAMENTATIONS 3:22

The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease…His compassions never fail.

LAMENTATIONS 3:23

THEY ARE NEW EVERY MORNING…great is Your faithfulness, O Lord.
