TODAY’S STUDY The Most Powerful Words in History…I Believe
And the Word (ho logos…God the Son) became flesh (true humanity…Jesus Christ), and dwelt (tabernacled) among us, and we saw (beheld) His glory, glory as of the only begotten (uniquely born One) from the (source of God the) Father, full of grace and truth
…He Himself (the Lord Jesus Christ) bore our sins in His (own) body (true humanity) on the Cross, so that we (whosoever would believe) might die to (the sovereignty of the) sin (nature) and (so that whosoever might) live (the Zoe life) to (the blessing of absolute) righteousness; for (it is) by His wounds (the undeserved blows He suffered on your behalf that) you were healed (drawn together with God and attached to Him forever).
Jesus said to her (Martha), “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies (spiritually)…”
…and everyone who lives (the Zoe life…the resurrection life) and believes in Me (has faith in me) will never die (the second death). Do you believe this?”
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; it is melted within me.//My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And You lay me in the dust of death.
For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.//I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me;//They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots.
When Jesus had said this (after washing the disciples feet), He became troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, that one of you will betray Me.”
“This is My commandment (mandate…request), that you love one another (unconditionally), just as I have loved you (unconditionally).”
“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”
Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You…”
But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
Having arrested Him (the Lord Jesus Christ), they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the high priest (Caiaphas)…
Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas into the Praetorium, and it was early (Wednesday Morning)…
Pilate then took Jesus and scourged Him.
And Pilate came out again, and said to them, “Behold, I am bringing Him (the Lord Jesus Christ) out to you, that you may know that I find no guilt in Him.”
Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: “HE (the Lord Jesus Christ) WAS LED AS A SHEEP TO SLAUGHTER; AND AS A LAMB BEFORE ITS SHEARER IS SILENT, SO HE DOES NOT OPEN HIS MOUTH.”
So he (Pontius Pilate) then handed Him (the Lord Jesus Christ) over to them to be crucified.//They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own Cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.//There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between.
…fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the Cross…
Now from the sixth hour (noon…a supernatural) darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour (3PM).//About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” that is, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”

(The Lord Jesus) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us — for it is written, “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE”
But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”

Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said,“It is finished (tetelestai)!”

And He (the Lord Jesus Christ) bowed His head and gave up His (human) spirit (into the hands of God the Father).
“For this reason (the prophecy of , God) the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again (at the resurrection). //No one (creature…neither angel nor mankind) has taken it (My life) away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down (by My own volition), and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment (directive) I received from My Father (in eternity past).”
But God (the Father) demonstrates His own (unconditional) love toward us (all mankind), in that while we were yet sinners (spiritually dead unbelievers), Christ died (as a substitute) for us.
Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and (everyone in) your household (who also believes).
And he (one of the thieves on the Cross next to Jesus) was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!”//And He (the Lord Jesus Christ) said to him (the repentant thief), “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I (the Lord Jesus Christ) came that they (believers in Christ) may have (the Zoe) life, and have it abundantly.”
He (God the Father) who did not spare His own Son (the Lord Jesus Christ), but delivered Him over (as a substitute) for us all, how will He (God the Father) not also with (us in union with) Him freely give us all things?
